On October 24, two Harry Potter-themed “Wizard Rock” bands, Harry and the Potters and Draco and the Malfoys, will perform in Portland and then join with concertgoers and other volunteers to ask the citizens of Maine to say “No” to Proposition 1 and allow marriage equality to prevail.  “The parallels in Harry Potter around equal rights, including marriage equality, abound,” says Slack.  I’m sure that Professor Dumbledore would certainly agree; the character was famously outed as being gay a couple of years ago by J.K. Rowling, the books’ author.

I read the first few books in the series and saw a couple of the movies, but I just can’t see them as anything more than entertaining — and fictional — adventures; I certainly don’t get trying to make them come alive in the real world.  Nonetheless, I definitely applaud the efforts of these die-hard fans as they work to help families become, well, families in the eyes of the law.
