Should the Sitter Man Poop Scoop Duties?

potty 300x225 Should the Sitter Man Poop Scoop Duties? When a mom comes home to find a big pile of poop in her kid’s potty, the first thought might be “yay, she finally used the toilet!” But can you blame the parent who thinks just as quickly: why is this still in here?

Kelcey Kintner of the Mama Bird Diaries pondered this week whether it’s the sitter’s job to dump the kid’s potty. A quick poll of my Strollerderby colleagues came up with a unanimous: um, YES!

Think of it this way – if you leave your non-potty trained kid at home with a sitter, you expect them to change the child’s diaper. So if feces and urine are part of the job for babies, they’re part of the job for toddlers too – because they’re too young to do it themselves. Which is why you HIRE a babysitter – because they are too young to do most things for themselves.

Besides – dumping a potty is significantly less disgusting than diaper duty. You don’t actually have to get your hands in there! And you can use a disinfectant wipe on the potty – you can’t use one of those on a child’s delicate behind.

Has your sitter ever challenged this one?

Thank you “Strollerderby colleagues” for supporting me! I may not have a sitter anymore but at least I’m not crazy.

While cleaning the potty is not necessarily easier or less disgusting than diaper duty, I would agree…YES! I mean, who the heck would leave a pile of shit festering in the house?

I think cleaning a potty is more daunting than changing a diaper, which is why our kids went straight from diapers to the adult toilet. I agree, though, that whoever is in charge needs to take care of it and not let it sit out – gross.

I never LIKED cleaning the little potty, but I guess I always found it easier because my daughter was a squirmer during a diaper change. I appreciated the fact that the potty didn’t move on me and smear poop up my arm!

If she’s not dumping the poop that means she’s not helping her wipe her hiney either!

Sitter should dump the potty. But, as the mom of a toddler and an infant, there have been a number of times when I have dashed off to do something (like chase down a toddler so I can wipe a behind) and left a poop in the potty, only to come back hours later and think ewww gross, how could a do that. So, coming home to fine poo in the potty would not necessarily make me fire the sitter. But, a sitter who said “not my job…” oh yeah, fired!
