A Map Through Infertility
It’s a trying time for would-be parents, so wouldn’t it be nice to have a road map for the infertility process?
One that will hopefully lead you TO fertility?
Melissa Ford doesn’t promise she’ll get you pregnant, but her book Navigating the Land of If: Understanding Fertility and Exploring Your Options is one worth taking on the journey.
The author also known as the mom behind Stirrup Queens, one of the web’s most popular go-tos for fertility info with a hilarious bent, makes the oft harrowing and frustrating process of getting pregnant with an infertility diagnosis seem managable. It’s thanks in part to her first-person view (and writing) on the situation.
In an interview with Babble, Ford explains her story: “Our diagnosis came out slowly and it made sense to start out less invasive and then ramp it up. We did a few Clomid cycles and then injectable cycles and then IUIs with injectables. We were on our final IUI before IVF when we got lucky. My problem had been holding on to pregnancies more than getting pregnant (prior to seeing the RE, I had four early losses).”
That led to Navigating, which she describes as “a tour book to the Land of If–the Land of Infertility.”
” Just as a tour book gives you important information to make an unknown land manageable and navigatable, my book gives readers not only information on how to leave the “island” but how to survive during their time stuck in infertility. It gives a lot of concrete information that the reader will want to know such as how to give an injection (and how to make that injection less painful) but also helpful advice on decision making and ways of reframing situations.”
Worth the read no matter where you are on the journey, you can pick up a copy at Amazon.
