7-Year-Old Attacked by Deer
It is estimated that there are about 2.4 million collisions between deer and vehicles in the U.S. every year. In almost every case, the deer are hit by the cars, not the other way around. But, as 7-year-old Brandon Hiles learned last weekend, sometimes the deer hit back.
Hiles was playing football with a group of friends in Wintersville, Ohio on Saturday when their ball rolled into a nearby wooded area. Stepping into the trees to retrieve it, Hiles came face-to-face with a large buck with a bad attitude. Hiles says the buck ran at him, flipped him with its antlers and left him bruised and bleeding on the ground.
Fortunately, Hiles’ 9-year-old friend had his back. Wyatt Pugh grabbed a stick and commenced to beating the deer until it finally ran away.
Police say there was another buck in the area and theorize that the boys inadvertently came between the two just as they were about to go after each other. That’s a reasonable explanation and further proof that while deer may be majestic and beautiful from a distance, they will not hesitate to mess you up if you get in their way.
