RIP Cookie, Hello Conceive Magazine
It’s been a bad year for print and parenting with Cookie’s demise this week and Wondertime earlier this year. If we breeders ever needed some good news, it was now.
So here it is: Just as Conde was pulling plugs, Bonnier Corp was actually shelling out cash this week – and for a parenting title to boot.
According to MediaBistro’s FishBowl folks, they’ve picked up Conceive Magazine, a relatively young title at five-years-old (what am I saying? that’s still older than my kid). Already publishers of Babytalk and Parenting, Bonnier’s CEO said this will provide “greater breadth to our targeted mom portfolio.”
In other words – they’ll get them reading earlier in along the parent spectrum, and hopefully keep them there.
Conceive touts itself as the “experts on getting pregnant.” Considering the growing numbers of older moms, burgeoning book market for infertility books, wide web of fertility sites, it’s apparent that’s exactly what women want – someone to tell them how to get to a point where they’ll one day be buying parenting magazines.
But where most parenting publications cover a broad range of ages to keep up with quickly developing kids, Conceive is directed at one small niche market.
Cookie’s taken a lot of flack in the last few days for being too niche with its fashion-heavy pages, so it will be interesting to see how this one plays out. But as a parent, it’s nice to know someone thinks we’re worth it, right?
Do you see it surviving?
