TLC Officially Dumps Jon Gosselin
They’re halfway there! TLC’s head honcho officially announced they’ll be dumping Jon Gosselin from Jon and Kate Plus Eight.
From here on out, the show will be known as Kate Plus Eight. Anyone else wonder if they kept her because they couldn’t risk losing the rhyme?
The folks at TLC told the Associated Press this is more or less a signal of where the show was going anyway. With Jon making it clear he wants to party and play rather than parent (OK, they didn’t say that at TLC, his picture on every tabloid did), the show has featured less and less of him since the big “we’re getting a divorce” announcement show last spring.
The announcement does, however, put to rest rumors that it will be canceled. And it will make the show officially a reality show about single motherhood rather than the more general “parenting.”
There have been a few single moms on TV, but they’ve largely been fictional (Amy in Judging Amy, Nancy Botwin in Weeds, Murphy Brown, Lorelai Gilmore in Gilmore Girls). Now Kate Gosselin will be stepping forward to fill the role.
She’s spent the last few months putting her kids through a public divorce (along with Jon – the fault goes to them both) and keeping the camera in their faces; she has more money than your average single parent and she’s had more plastic surgery too.
The new show is set to start churning out on TV screens in November. My question to all you single moms out there – is Kate the woman you want repping you to the world?

Jon Gosselin Suspends filming on ‘Kate Plus 8′ | Strollerderby commented on Oct 01 09 at 8:10 pmKellyK commented on Sep 29 09 at 3:53 pmSays this single mom: not in one hundred thousand million years would i ever want people to associate single moms with Kate. And I use “single” and “mom” very losely.
Mistress_Scorpio commented on Sep 29 09 at 7:34 pmI don’t watch the show and doubt I’ll start now, but it’s silly to consider one persons experience representative of all or most.
BARBARA commented on Sep 30 09 at 8:37 amComments KATE IS NOT A TRUE REP OF SINGLE MOTHERS. MANY SINGLE MOTHERS HAVE ALL DAY JOBS. THE MUST GET THIER CHILDREN READY FOR SCHOOL AND DAY CARE,WITH NO HELP. THEN IT’S OFF TO DROP THEM AT SCHOOL AND DAY CARE. BY THE TIME THESE MOMS GET TO WORK IT FEELS AS THOUGH THEY HAVE ALREADY PUT IN EIGHT HOURS. THE END OF THE WORK DAY THEY REVERSE THE MORNING ACTIVITIES,GO HOME AND COOK FEED AND GET THE KIDS OFF TO BED.NO NANNIES INVOLVED. PLEASE DON’T TELL ME SHE REP WE SINGLE MOTHERS.
