Here’s a casting challenge. Find a flawless blonde bombshell who’s 5’9” and has the measurements of 36-18-33. Oh and she’ll have to be both ridiculously glamorous, and virginally wholesome all at the same time. These will be some very tough shoes to fill. But some lucky freakishly shaped actress will soon have the opportunity to play Barbie – the Barbie – on the big screen.

Universal Studios finally got the rights to create a live action film based on Barbie from her manufacturer and master Mattel. This won’t be a direct to video type enterprise like the animated series of films based on Barbie. With Laurence Mark producing (Jerry Maguire and Julie & Julia), this will be a real theater bound flick. Another question, what slice of Barbie’s life will they focus on? Her careers as a model, mermaid, astronaut, rock star, or veterinarian? Or maybe it will be a tell all on her and Ken’s very very long lasting relationship (and he’s yet to put a ring on it).

Would you go see a live action Barbie movie?
