Coming Soon: LEGO the Movie and the Board Game
Two of the coolest toys on the planet and the two dreaded opponents of parent’s feet come late night stumble to the bathroom have joined forces.
LEGO is going to make a board game. We’re expecting eensy weensy pieces – preferably brick shaped.
Better for our feet – word has it they’re making a LEGO movie too.
The game is expected to hit shelves next year in the U.S. another addition for one of the few toy manufacturers finding its market share is growing in this economy. LEGO sales rose thirty-eight percent last year even as other toymakers took a hit of at least three percent.
The movie will take longer (LEGOland wasn’t built in a day, you know), but a New York Times report describes talks with Warner Bros. regarding a combination live action/animation flick.
LEGO’s have already merged the movies with the toys with the boxed sets of movie-themed building blocks (excuse us, bricks), and the animated video games. Sold with the XBox 360 last Christmas, the LEGO Indian Jones game sold like gangbusters. Then there’s all that hoop-la over another Warner/LEGO pairing – the upcoming Harry Potter game.
I’m hard-pressed to think of a toy more versatile or packed with more memories for yours truly (hours of hiding in the corner of the playroom, avoiding the baby brother and making up stories of knights and spacemen). I’m curious about the next generation of LEGO, eager for the next innovation, but I’m also trembling on my sore tootsies.
Will our kids want to imagine with LEGOs if they’re too busy watching them on the tube?
