RECALL ALERT! Some Kids Tylenol Yanked from Shelves

tylenol1 RECALL ALERT! Some Kids Tylenol Yanked from ShelvesA recall alert issued by Tylenol will no doubt be sending parents scrambling for their medicine cabinet this week, so Babble has pulled together the details of what you need to look for while you’re there.

The recall is not being advertised on the Tylenol Website or even the Food and Drug Administration site, so we went right to the source the Customer Care Center at Tylenol.

There they said the recall is only a “warehouse recall,” and store owners have already been advised to pull the drug from their shelves. They also directed doctors to pull sample bottles from their shelves. The best news? The drug is safe. It’s a voluntary recall, which according to NY Pediatrician Dr. Seth Gordon came because “examination of bulk raw material detected that one of the inactive ingredients contained  gram-negative bacteria Burkholderia cepacia (B. cepacia). The portion of raw material in which the bacteria was found was isolated and was not used in the production of any finished product.”

That means there is no B. cepacia in any of the medicine bottles, and kids are safe. But parents have the option of calling Tylenol to see whether the bottle in their cabinet is part of the recall and get help in re-stocking their shelves.

The lot numbers to look for:

Wow, thanks for reporting this! I’m 2.5 weeks into a microbiology course, and I’m fresh from a lecture on now gram-negative bacteria are EXTREMELY imunogenic, as in, NOT something you want anywhere near your kids.

Mira commented on Sep 22 09 at 3:03 pm

But it’s not anywhere near your kids because it wasn’t used in the production of the finished product.

So everything is fine with that Tylenol Infants? I just got a call from Sam’s Club to return the bottle for a full refund , but we used it already.

Carmen commented on Sep 23 09 at 10:20 am

My husband got a call from Sams Club also just now. It isn’t on Tylenol’s website, which it should be!

Jennifer commented on Sep 23 09 at 10:35 am

I got a call from Sams and it states mine is a recall however the number is not listed above. So, if you have SDM008 it is also a recall. Also, since giving my child this for a minor cold he has been to the Dr. 3X with serious symptoms. Not sure if it is related to meds but in the process of finding out.

Laura commented on Sep 23 09 at 10:57 am

WHY is this not on the Tylenol site???? We also got a call from Sam’s club but have already used all the medicine. Does anyone have any info on what to do about kids who have ingested an entire bottle??

Heather commented on Sep 23 09 at 11:16 am

Comments sams actually called about buying this…very kind of them

mom commented on Sep 23 09 at 11:18 am

It is a very dangerous bacteria and if it was found in the product than not only should McNeil report it but, what about the FDA???

Jenny commented on Sep 23 09 at 1:13 pm

I will be calling my pediatriction and my local grocery store where I purchased the product in the first place! Someone must have gotten sick or something because I have owned this bottle for aprox. three months!!!

Jenny commented on Sep 23 09 at 1:15 pm

CommentsGot a call of this product—–only trouble they did not say what it was. Had to call McNeil Products to get to the fact that it was Tylenol we had purchased for my 1 year old great-grandson. Nothing on any government recall site.

Myra commented on Sep 23 09 at 1:19 pm

I rec’d a call from Sams club that I may have purchased a batch being recalled if you call the number to McNeil Product they can confirm the batches if you think you may have purchased. 1-800-962-5357. The rep at that number informed me that they recalled the infant drops due to an inactive ingredient that has had NO advese effects noted to date.

Beth commented on Sep 23 09 at 1:37 pm

my daughter used the childrens tylenol plus cough and runny nose about a week ago and ever since has been vomiting and has diarreah is that related?

See this for list of all products recalled. Sams club also called me today but the Lot number on the products I bought do not match these so I think I am safe. This web address is from the McNeil products which produce Tylenol.

Pam commented on Sep 23 09 at 8:29 pm

Thanks for the heads-up. My son’s Tylenol Infant Drops were on the above list. I will be calling tomorrow and returning to my local Wal-Mart….

Comments Hello, I have read alot of concern with this just on these comments Please understand after reading the start of the blog the medicines final product has no trace of the bacteria you can still return if you would like but more then likly the child is not going to be affected, by taking the medication. I hope this eases some worries also if you are exteremly worried Call the FDA and report the illness that has appered since takng the med I am sure though that you have to have a drs report saying it was related to the medication. Thank you for posting this though i was worried but my tylenol was not on here I had just bought it on Sept 1st from sams club and used almost 3/4 of the bottle in the last month (teething 2 yr old) Thanks again.

Comments no lot number on my bottle almost all use cant get threw on phone high call number

doris commented on Sep 24 09 at 12:27 pm

It is very misleading for your website to use a photo of a non recalled tylenol product. The Meltaways are not being listed as being recalled.

Candy Sonck commented on Sep 24 09 at 8:47 pm

I have been giving my 15 month old tylenol from a recalled bottle because he is teething. I just found out that the product was recalled. He was at the doctor’s monday and was diagnosed with a respiratory infection. The doctor was very concerned. I will be taking my son back on Monday to see if it is related. I did call the number listed and she informed me that any child that has taken the product should be seen by their pediatrician. I recommend everyone to do this. It is better to be safe than sorry.

CommentsI have giveing my 11 year old grand son the Tylenol Dye free cherry Orel Suspension for about 3 days , Yesterday he started to throw up blood at school, they sent him home with a temp of 101.6, I can only hope they telling the truth!

shirley commented on Sep 26 09 at 10:02 pm

Comments : I HAVE the recalled product! I called the 800 # given and they are closed. You would think they would have representatives available 24/7 during a recall on childrens’ medications. Will have to call tomorrow morning.

Sue ~ Rocky Point commented on Sep 27 09 at 10:49 am

Omg I have the childrens tylenol and I’m sooo concerned I can’t sleep and can’t even call. This is sooo frustrating that it seems like every childs product, toy or medicine becomes a recall ! As a parent and a consumer I’m upset

Jessica commented on Sep 28 09 at 2:29 am

This infuriates me. Whats next??!! My 8 yr old has been taking one thats ON THE LIST for 3 days …AND HE IS GETTING WORSE !! Makes me wonder if it is the TYLENOL???

Terribmd commented on Sep 28 09 at 2:36 am

Why anyone would use Tylenol instead of aspirin is a mystery. Tylonol does not reduce fever or pain. It only makes you groggy.
Continued use of Tylonol affects the liver. Look it up.

Tom commented on Sep 28 09 at 9:22 am

I have been keeping up on the comments here and I would like to urge all of you that have given this to a child, please take them to the doctor. A lot of people are saying it’s probably nothing. Well if it was nothing than why bother with a recall?

Elizabeth commented on Sep 28 09 at 10:35 am

CommentsMy granddaughter was given Tylenol on Saturday for a slight fever and the next morning her upper lip started to swell. Later in the day the swelling went into her eyes. Has anyone noticed this? She also has an upset stomach.

Kay commented on Sep 28 09 at 3:24 pm

Comments A few days ago my 8 year old daughter had a runny nose I thought she was getting a cold so I gave her some Tylenol Plus Cold and Stuffy Nose. The next morning she got up for school and she had a severe stomach cramps. I don’t know if this is related to the Tylenol or if she got a bug that was going around. But it is very scary.. No more Tylenol for us..

TeeJay commented on Sep 28 09 at 9:31 pm

my son and daughter both had fevers that they just kept burning up and once they vomited they were fine. But my daughter is still getting over this. she keeps telling me her stomach hurts. Unfortunately they both were taking cough and runny nose and cold and allergey…..

jessica commented on Sep 28 09 at 10:04 pm

Where is everyone finding (what states) the “tainted” Tylenol. My daughter got sick at about 3 months old. We gave her Tylenol and for the last YEAR, we have been battling what the doctors thought was giardia, then c-diff, then no explanation. We have been to the pediatrican, GI specialist and the allergist. No one knows what her issue is and now I’m starting to wonder if it’s from the Tylenol????????

CommentsGOD!!!!! WATS NEXT FIRST THIS THEN THAT U GUYS WANT TO KILL US

JENNIFER commented on Sep 29 09 at 4:13 pm

my kids been sick for the past days now i know from what it is ????

JENNIFER commented on Sep 29 09 at 4:17 pm

My 14 month old daughter has been sick for about 1 1/2 months. That was about the time that I gave her some tylenol for teething and shots that is now being recalled. She has since been to the doctor many times. They have said she had a virus, then a sinus infection, then another virus, then another sinus infection, then an ear infection and now her tonsils are infected. ENT even said that it is a bacterial infection. I mentioned the recall to him but her quickly changed the topic. I now have a call in the the pediatrician to see if I can have her tested to see if it is linked. It really has me worried because from what I’m reading common antibotics do not work well with this type of bacteria. Has anyone else had similar problems with their children. I know this bacteria usually causes respirtory problems but I have found some things online about people having tonsils removed because of the bacteria causing them to get infected. ENT did say that if this antibotic does not clear it up she will probably have to have them removed. I really hope it does not come down to that.

my kids both got sick spent 4 days in the hospital and the doc told me me it came from the tyneol he asked to see the bottle and everything

Erica commented on Oct 21 09 at 9:37 pm

terressa commented on Oct 28 09 at 4:59 pm

I’m beyond words! My household has been a Tylenol customer since I don’t know how long…since I, my self was a young kid! It’s beyond disturbing 2 now question yourself: what if the bottle 1 finished & threw out was in that batch! I’ve used all the mentioned recall bottles @ 1 point OR another in the last couple of years! Not to long b4 the recall I had taken my daughter in 2 the M.D for high fever & vomiting after given her Tylenol. She has been ill on & off and now I wonder if Tylenol had any bearing. Will take my daughter in 4 a re-eval & blood work 2 ease & rest my worries!

rc commented on Oct 31 09 at 8:05 am

i been searching for children tylenol plus cold grape its from 4/11 aemo72 is this a recall?

sally commented on Nov 01 09 at 7:51 pm

Comments I never did trust tylenol and i don’t know why. I am talking for years now. It is a definate that extended use of Tylenol causes damage to the liver. From now on, I will be sticking to the good old Bayer products. Asprin does the same thing, unless you are on a blood thinner. ALWAYS consult a physician before taking ANYTHHING.
