Couples Resorts Throwing In the Price of a Babysitter
The “we don’t have a sitter excuse” is gone for parents who were planning to scrimp on the vacation in the tight economy. To boost their numbers, a romantic resort for couples in the picturesque Poconos is offering to pay parents’ sitting bills for the weekend.
The northeastern Pennsylvania area is among the state’s most popular with tourists, but it’s got financial fears to go along with the economy too.
So Ceasar’s is putting up a $100 stipend for parents to pay the sitter. The Romance Rescue Package will costs parents $240 a night for a two-night minimum stay, but they’ll get $100 in cash back at check-in.
Once there you can see Sinbad! The Boogie Wonder Band! Sleep in the not-so-subtly named Blush bed! Yes, all exclamations that make me want to stay home!
But I’m one of those old fuddy duddies who has fallen victim to not needing to spend $240 a night to boogie in any kind of bed. And I’m in good company! A company-sponsored survey claims sixty-one percent of parents report they don’t plan romantic get-aways because they hope to “squeeze in the romance.” It’s called get it where you can and while they sleep!
It’s worth pointing out that becoming a parent means less extra income for couple’s trips – and even if you have the dough to get up and go, there’s that whole “finding a trustworthy sitter for that many nights” problem. For those of you who’ve managed it . . . mind sharing the digits? In my household, there hasn’t been a kid-free vacation since our pre-pregnancy days.
For all that talk about the importance of date night (we’ve managed our share of those), date weekends are few and far between.
Would a little kick-back to pay the sitter kick you into a weekend of living like before you had to lock your bedroom door to keep out the peeping tiny tim?

Maureen commented on Sep 19 09 at 11:56 pmWe’ve had a number of kid-free weekends since our kids came into the picture — but we’re lucky in that we have lots of family that lives nearby. There’s always an Aunt and Uncle or grandparent to watch the kids while we set off on an adventure to meet with friends or just catch some alone time. We only do that if the price is right for our trip… staying with friends or a super cheap hotel price.
As far as date night goes, we don’t do that much because of money… we wouldn’t have to pay for a sitter, but for the price of dinner and a movie, we could get a room:)
Brett Singer commented on Sep 21 09 at 9:08 amIt’s not a bad idea. Disney does this on their cruises, I think, where you can drop the kids off and let them watch Mickey Mouse cartoons while you go dancing.
