Operation Rescue Is Broke

troynewmanhead Operation Rescue Is BrokeYes, you heard right. Extremist anti-abortion group Operation Rescue has no money, and according to a letter sent out by group president Troy Newman yesterday, darn it all, they were JUST on the verge of something big.

Other than the unmitigated gall of using the murder of abortion provider George Tiller in church (nice honoring of Jesus, and the free expression of religion, that) as one of their excuses for the financial pickle they are in, the letter is almost funny. Supposedly, they have big things on the horizon, great big things, things they cannot share with the very people they are begging for money.

Newman writes: “I can’t go into detail about it — because we need to take the abortion cartel by surprise — I can tell you that it will be a totally NEW phase in the pro-life fight.

We’ve been working on it all summer. And we were planning to launch it in the next 30 days.

However, now that we’re completely out of money, I’m afraid we won’t even be able to launch it… ever!

And that would be the worst defeat imaginable.”

I’ll let y’all decide what to do with that.

While I myself am pro-choice, I have had some very deep, heartfelt conversations with people on the other side of the issue that lead me to believe that some anti-abortion supporters have thought this through morally and empathically,  that they believe abortion is wrong but can understand that there are nuances to every decision we make around our reproductive lives.

And then there’s these whackjobs, who bomb clinics, threaten, harrass, and even murder clinic workers who are, it must be said, helping women obtain a medical procedure  to which they have a legal right.

If you are against abortion, I urge you to check out the comments on the post I linked — the first commenter suggested several pro-life organizations that deserve your money much, much more.

OH! What a shame! How can an anti abortion group be on the ‘verge’ of something ‘big’ Have they learned a new technique to strong arm people into havening no choice??? Sure they are broke noone has money and certainly not to hand out to a bunch of judging propagandists! Serves them right! Now they can focus on better tasks like caring for the children THEY have and doing good like recycling or volunteering at a pet shelter something that does not infringe upon the civil rights of others!

I certainly support anyone’s right to protest – I just wish groups like OR would invest real time, energy, and money to rescuing the millions of children in America and around the world languishing in orphanages, refugee camps, and in foster care systems.
Perhaps they have put effort into those children, but they sure haven’t made promoting those issues a priority.

How tragic.

My real problem with a lot of these fringe anti-abortion groups is that they are trying to stop birth control as well. A lot of them support ‘the pill kills site’ and other nutty causes.
