Teen Running for Governor of Wisconsin

jared christiansen 250x300 Teen Running for Governor of WisconsinThe teenage son of two truck drivers who spends two-week stints at home by himself is about to show the world he can truly hang with the big boys. He’s thrown his hat in the ring for governor of Wisconsin.

Jared Christiansen is only seventeen, not yet even able to VOTE, but he’s hoping to take the seat soon to be vacated by retiring Gov. Doyle.

I’m going to give him credit for being politicially conscious in the eleventh grade. But really, the kid can’t VOTE yet, and they’re letting him run for the highest office in the state?

Christiansen will be nineteen by the time the election rolls around – his birthday is in October, and Doyle’s term won’t end until next year. For the past two years, the teen has practically raised himself as his parents are truck drivers who spend lengthy periods away from home. He’s able to handle it, apparently – as he’s worked his way up to an assistant manager’s position at his local McDonald’s in addition to putting in his time as member of the cadet commander of the Civil Air Patrol.

He’s got the issues down too – he wants to up the taxes on casinos and oil companies to take the burden off lower and middle-income families, get out of some federally funded (and in his eyes mismanaged) healthcare systems, and harness green energy by building wind farms on the shores of Lake Michigan.

Taxes, healthcare and green . . . yup, he talks like a politician. However he’s not toeing any party line – he’s running as a Democrat . . . but opposed to stem cell research and only favors abortion if a woman has been raped.

He’s not the only Democrat with his eye on the prize – much more experienced politicians (among them the state’s lt. governor) have expressed an interest. But if he makes it too the primary at all, we’ll be impressed.

And hey – you never know. Figures show Democrats are favored to win in 2010. They don’t show how old the candidate will be.

Would you vote for a kid still in high school as your next governor?

When those who are “educated” make mistakes and are making a mockery of the government, why shouldn’t someone from the younger generation take a chance? All I hear these days is that people of my generation don’t care about anything. Yet, when we took an interest in the Presidential election, our elder complained.

I would vote for this young man, after all he seems to be more educated then those who are considered wiser. How can we really judge who is best for a position when so many that we consider leaders only fool around in office, or let their power go to their heads? Congratulations to him for knowing, and taking a stand for what he thinks/believes is right!

I think the above comment demonstrates a lot about exactly what’s going wrong in America. I mean, are you seriously saying that being informed doesn’t matter in a public official as much as having good intentions? Wow.

I want the people in charge to be smarter than me – that’s what I pay them for, for having the background to take care of things that I don’t have the knowledge base for. I don’t pay them to be any old yahoo with an opinion.

sounds like a great kid…wish he would start at a more reasonable point, running in a local election. Trying to catapault to the governor’s mansion looks bad for him and would make it awful hard to govern.

This kid could probably do just as well as Doyle, however, he’s running on the Democratic ticket. Hey Wisconsin. Look up the stats on what the Democrats have done to this state since becoming the majority. Find out where all of our tax dollars have gone…and the stimulus money Wisconsin got. It was supposed to go to creating jobs and the only jobs created were government jobs. And Wisconsin is going to vote the Democrats back in????? Give me a break. If the Democrats are re-elected, we will deserve what we get, however, why do the rest of us have to suffer for it?

Comments His only problem will be is that he cannot otuch the casino’s that are ran by the Indians. But, hey.even though he is a Democrat, I would vote for him.
