FDA Approves Swine Flu Vaccine
With the World Health Organization predicting that the swine flu virus could infect as much as one-third of the world’s population, U.S. Health Secretary Kathleen Sebelius was relieved to announce that the FDA has approved vaccines from four major drugmakers.
Sebelius said the government has already contracted to buy 195 million doses of the vaccine, which will be free to the public beginning in mid-October. According to the FDA, “most healthy adults have a good immune response eight to 10 days after receiving a single shot.” Trials are still underway for children and pregnant women, the two groups most at risk for infection.
As we all know, where there’s a vaccine, there’s controversy, and some people have already expressed concern about the rapidity with which the vaccine was approved. But the FDA claims that the exact same standards used to test the seasonal flu have been used in testing the swine flu vaccine.
Will you get your kids vaccinated?

hannahtm commented on Sep 16 09 at 7:39 pmYes, they’re second cousins once removed who happen to share the same governmental post. Seriously, thanks for the catch!
Robyn commented on Sep 17 09 at 12:04 amNo. The vaccines haven’t been tested in adults, let alone kids, infants, and pregnant women. (The article you link to states that.) In the 1970s, a different swine flu vaccine paralyzed people. That sounds like fun. Let’s put more money into common sense – our parks can’t afford soap in the bathrooms – instead of developing a vaccine so we can all be guinea pigs.

Cyndi commented on Sep 17 09 at 10:51 ammy 17 mo old is in a trial for the H1N1 vaccine, so he already got his first dose (no problems) – the 70′s swine flu vaccine was not prepared the way today’s flu vaccines are and the current swine flu vaccine is being prepared like reg. seasonal flu vaccine – according to the informed consent docs, the 70′s vaccine caused Guillain-Barre syndrome in 1-100,000 people and most recovered quickly
LogicalMama commented on Sep 19 09 at 1:17 pmthey might not be prepared the same way, but they still have formaldahyde, aluminum, thermirasol, polyproplene glycol and other nasty stuff!
Not sure if I believe Cyndi b/c the CDC released a statement saying that the trial study included ONLY 9,000 healthy adults!!!!!

I had the Swine flu shot in ’76 and began shivering violently within one hour after the shot, and have had occasional episodes ever since, including one tonight. I shake so hard my muscles ache.
