Fighting the Fat With Wild Things
If you thought the big news for Maurice Sendak fans was the upcoming Spike Jonze recreation of his classic, Where The Wild Things Are.
You’d only be half right. The book that’s soon to be a flick is also about to hit advertising venues everywhere to fight something even bigger: childhood obesity.
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services announced it will be encouraging kids to make a “Wild Rumpus,” like Max and the Wild Things so they can work off their childhood chub and avoid childhood obesity. Tied in with the Small Steps.gov (for which I’ve heard some incredibly stupid ads – may this be a permanent replacement) initiative, each will be created pro bono by the folks at Warner Bros, who are producing Jonze’s movie adaptation.
The book is popular in Washington – it’s President Obama’s favorite:
Not to mention heĀ read it from the White House lawn several months ago.
Chances the president’s preferences played a role in this pick are probably slim – more likely the ability to tie into the biggest movie event of the year for American kids secured the relationship.
Will you let your little wild thing go out and play after they catch a peek?
