Mad Men’s Sally Draper Speaks!
It’s been a mad, mad, mad week. So let’s continue with a little more Mad Men love, shall we?
Like, say, whether we believe Kiernan Shipka, AKA Sally Draper, really answered the questions currently up on the AMC blog for the show. We’re used to precocious actresses, but some are saying this nine-year-old reads like she’s thirty-nine instead.
Considering the hi-jinks her character gets up to (driving Grandpa Gene’s car, mixing cocktails, stealing, watching too-old-for-her tv), Shipka’s gotten a bite at the adult apple already. Not to mention she’s a star on one of the hottest shows on television, and that comes with it a need to be a “serious” actress . . . and brush up on your interview skills.
She’s an ACTRESS. It’s her job. So why shouldn’t her interview skills betray that?
A taste of what Sally, er, Kiernan, has to say, does confirm she is eminently sweeter than the coniving, manipulative Draper child:
Q: What parts of Sally are most like you?
A: I do do lots of ballet like Sally. It’s always fun when I do ballet on the show. I had never done the maypole but that was so fun to do. The kids were nice. And the choreography was beautiful.
Q: What do you like best about being Sally?
A: Everything is fun about Sally. She’s such an adventurous girl.
You can check out the whole Q&A here on AMC’s blog. Then come back and tell us what you think: normal kid, precocious actress or total fake?

Correction made: Sally is seven, Kiernan is nine.
