Born at 9:09 on 9/9/09
To all those people who lined up at City Hall to be married on 9/9/09, you’ve just been topped. A mom in Queens gave birth to her baby girl at 9:09 a.m. on, you guessed it, Sept. 9.
And no, it wasn’t a planned birth. Isabella Villagomez arrived on her own, two days after mom Maria’s due date at a hospital in Flushing, NY.
The numerically auspicious date and time don’t come with gifts (a la the New Year’s Baby), but who couldn’t use a little bit of extra luck?
Numerical coincidences at birth run high in my family – I was born at 2:27 a.m., and my father’s birthday is 2/27. One relative was born of 5/25/25, and then there’s the 7/11 baby.
Too bad I don’t play the lottery – there’s plenty of fodder. Does your family have luck with numbers?

Baby Girl Born on 9/9/09 Has Sister Born on 8/8/08 | Strollerderby commented on Sep 21 09 at 3:00 pmamandashea17 commented on Sep 10 09 at 2:46 pmMy birthday is 12/17 and my dad’s birthday is 7/17. My aunt (his sister) is 7/19 and her daughters is 3/19. Ok, definitely not as cool as 9:09 A.M. on 9/9/09.
Em commented on Sep 10 09 at 4:39 pm1) I’m not sure I understand the relevance of this photo, unless that woman is the mom who gave birth.
2) I don’t think they do new year’s baby gifts anymore… if they do, I totally missed out. :)
jeannesager commented on Sep 10 09 at 4:41 pmEm – 1) she’s holding a 9. 2) Yup, they do in some places. As a newspaper reporter, I have been the bearer of new year’s baby gifts!
Em commented on Sep 11 09 at 10:00 am1) It still seems weird to me when the woman has nothing to do with the story. A 9 by itself would seem more appropriate. 2) Any way I can move retroactively and get said gifts? :) Do they only go to the first birth on New Year’s Day, or any births? And why do I feel so compelled to know more?
anthony_rootbeer commented on Sep 11 09 at 12:00 pmit is only for the 1st baby of the year. i was the first in my town although i was born on the 2nd. i actually did not even get 1/2 of the promised prizes though! i demand my vaporizer from you local business owner, 35 years later!!
jeannesager commented on Sep 11 09 at 2:47 pmEm – yes, only for the first baby born in a hospital after the new year begins. I think fewer and fewer hospitals take part, I know here it’s something the paper does – mostly gets advertisers to throw in a gift certificate or two and gives the parents a gift subscription to the newspaper. Nothing ultra awesome!
Maria commented on Sep 11 09 at 11:10 pmI am the Queens mom that gave birth to Isabella on 9/9/9 at 9:09 am. She’s perfectly healthy and we’re both home and well. Thank you for running the story. And for those who are wondering no, we didn’t get any special presents except from our family. The staff was great specially Nurse Mary but her shift ended at 7 am and she wasn’t there at Isabella’s birth but she was there prior and made my labor a lot more comfortable. Thank you!
jeannesager commented on Sep 11 09 at 11:11 pmCongratulations Maria – best of luck to your whole family!
