In 2003, a group of prep school kids joined Jack Black and, through the power of rock ‘n’ roll, urged a nation of moviegoers to stick it to The Man.

Since then, the preteens who starred in “School of Rock” have grown up and now find themselves in different places in their lives, although several of them still seem pretty committed to making music. In part one of a two-part Rich or Rehab — think of it as the Strollerderby equivalent of a  cliffhanger — I attempt to track down 10 of the key School of Rockers.

Let’s start with the most high-profile of the bunch, Miranda Cosgrove. The girl formerly known as band manager Summer Hathaway is now the star of the popular Nickelodeon series “iCarly,” as well as a singer; she recently recorded “Raining Sunshine,” a track to be featured in the upcoming animated film “Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs.” A little bit of irony there since Cosgrove’s character in “School of Rock” was unable to sing. But she *was* factotum, and as we all know, a factotum can accomplish anything.

Speaking of the musically inclined, Rebecca Brown — who played bad-ass bassist Katie — is a 17-year-old Chicago resident who actually still plays the bass. She’s the member of a hard rock band called Sweet Revenge (according to their MySpace page, influences include Green Day, Incubus, the Rolling Stones and Ray Charles). She’s also set up her own YouTube page, but Rebecca’s personal Web site was what made me smile. It features tons of photos from the “School of Rock” promotional tour — including pics of Rebecca with the Osbournes and the Mooney Suzuki — and this acknowledgment on its home page: “A special Thanks to my Mom for helping me build this Web Site!!! Thanks, MOM!”

All of the kids in “School of Rock” were important, but Zack Mooneyham — the mini-rock guitar god whose father wanted him to stick with classical music — was the most significant of the preteen characters. He was played by Joey Gaydos, now18 and still living in Michigan. Also still a musician at heart — he fronted a band called the Joey Gaydos Group, that, if this MySpace page is any indication, appears to have gone on hiatus — Gaydos apparently still loves his guitar. (One of his recent Tweets indicated that, while visiting San Diego, one of his top priorities involved visiting the nearest Guitar Center.) Unfortunately, Gaydos had a brush with the law earlier this year when he was charged with DUI after police nabbed him during a late-night Taco Bell run. He later pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of impaired driving and, according to Wikipedia, received two years’ probation and a fine. Hopefully that’s the first and last item on his criminal record.

Jordan-Claire Green played one of School of Rock’s two female groupies. But these days, she’s doing a little more than behaving like a crazed fan. The 17-year-old is still acting and has popped up in numerous TV shows since “SoR,” including “Arrested Development,” “Alias” and “The Wizards of Waverly Place.” She’s also got a part in the movie “A Thousand Words,” due out next year, in which she shares screen time with Eddie Murphy, Kerry Washington and Alison Janney.

And then there was Freddy. The role of the smart-mouthed, spiky-haired drummer went to Kevin Clark, an Illinois native who is, yes, still drumming in real life. He’s 20 and currently a member of the Robbie Gold Band. If the trivia items on his imdb bio remain accurate, Clark is still friends with his fellow Illinois “School of Rock” castmate, the aforementioned Rebecca Brown.
