Marvel Super Hero Squad Hero Up TP: Not sure if any kid would like these strips if they aren’t already a fan of Spider Man and the rest of the Marvel Universe. The jokes depend on at least a working knowledge of the characters. Does the idea of Doctor Doom doing his laundry make you smile? Then this is for you. Choose between a Hero or Villain cover.

Wolverine And Power Pack Wild Pack TP Digest: Power Pack was always kind of an also-ran in the Marvel U, but a recent deluge of mini-series teaming the Power children (that’s their last name, Power. Aren’t comic books fun/annoying?) with Spider Man, Wolverine, The X-Men, The Avengers, The Fantastic Four, Hulk have been fun to read and very popular. Not every character or team can sustain an ongoing monthly series, but in small doses, these are a hit in my house. The Digest versions are small and perfect for long car or plane trips.

Disney Pixars Incredibles Family Matters TP

Disney Pixars World Of Cars Radiator Springs #1: I have a feeling that the storylines on BOOM’s Disney/Pixar titles could start to get a bit thin, but for now the kids are still enjoying the antics of Mater, et al.

Looney Tunes Vol 3 #178: I was saying the other day that the Looney Tunes characters never really moved into the modern age. They’ve tried many times, but it never quite worked. The old cartoons still air here and there, and this comic title has been around for 178 issues. But I would thought that Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck would have wormed their way into the minds of every generation of kids. Then again I’m the guy who said “‘Hairspray – The Musical’? Who wants to see that?”

Grown-up titles of the week: Fall Out Toy Works #1 and Barack The Barbarian Quest For The Treasure Of Stimuli #2: We told you about the new series based on the lyrics of the band Fall Out Boy earlier today. Barack The Barbarian is one of the better Baracksploitation comic books that have taken over the shelves of comics speciality shops (aka Places Where Nerdy People Like Me Go Every Week). Ash Saves Obama was mostly dumb but not without its charms. The first issue of Barack The Barbarian was a notch above in cleverness, featuring Conan-esque versions of various cabinet members and Barack’s nemesis “Red Sarah.” Don’t get me wrong, it’s still dopey. But dopey in a good way.

Note for next week: because of the Labor Day holiday, new comics come out on Thursday September 10, rather than Wednesday. So mark your calendars.
