Teen Boy Cries Tears of Blood

boy eyes blood Teen Boy Cries Tears of BloodIf you’re a fan of the HBO hit True Blood (and believe me, I am), then you know that one thing that sets the vampires apart from humans is that when they cry, they cry blood.  It’s a pretty spooky sight.

But those vampires are fictional.  Calvino Inman is a real live 15-year-old boy, perfectly normal except for the fact that, about three times a day, his eyes well up and spill over with blood — an event that can last up to an hour.

Inman’s mother says that despite a thorough workup that includes MRIs, CAT scans, and ultrasounds, no one can explain why Inman’s eyes bleed.  “This is what every doctor tells us:  I’ve never seen anything like this before in all my so many years of being a doctor,” says Inman’s mother Tammy.

Inman says that his friends used to make fun of him, but that he’s “used to it now.”

On September 13th, the National Geographic Channel is showing “The Girl Who Cries Blood,” a special about an Indian teen with a similar disorder.  Maybe her publicity will help Inman unravel his own medical mystery.

Hear Inman and his mother talk about his condition in the video below:
