Duggars Expecting 19th Child

Michelle Duggar, who soon turns 43, told host Meredith Viera that she’s about three months along.

Only eight months ago she gave birth to their eighth daughter and 18th child, Jordyn-Grace. She told Viera she was surprised to learn of this pregnancy. (You’d think she’d catch on, but no judgment! Her body.)

The fecund Arkansas family has become famous for having babies — more babies! — so who can blame them for squeezing in one more before Michelle’s body shuts ‘er down for good.

Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar are also awaiting the birth of their first grandchild in mid-October. Their eldest son, Josh and his wife, Anna, are carrying on the family tradition of making babies, but they will break from the “J” name obsession — Duggar children, so far, have names that start with “J” — and christen the baby Mackynzie Renee.

Rebels!

UPDATE: The Duggars need help with this J-baby. They’re taking suggestions!

Now for some fun stats from the Today Show website:

Michelle has now been pregnant 147 months of her life, with five more to go. That’s 12-plus years and counting.

For those who are counting, the Duggars report that they have changed an estimated 90,000 diapers and do approximately 200 loads of laundry a month. They feed their entire family on less than $2,000 a month and say that they live debt-free.

Jim Bob Duggar has one sibling and Michelle is the youngest of seven.

What do you think about the Duggars and their overflowing “quiverfull”? Sickos, bumpoholics or national treasure?

Growing Up in a (Kinda) Duggar-Sized Family | Strollerderby commented on Sep 08 09 at 5:14 pm

Ya know, part of me wants to say, to each their own. And then another part of me is a little disturbed by the fact that, part of the reason they can have so many children is because their older children basically raise or significantly help raise the younger ones. I know those kids don’t know any differently and that’s just how their family operates, but it seems a bit much to put on their own children.

Mrs. Duggar should donate her repro organs to science. I have friends whose cervices and uteruses started falling out after four kids. It hurts to think about delivering 19.

ceecee commented on Sep 01 09 at 1:34 pm

90,000 diapers sitting in a landfill from one family. Gross.

wendy commented on Sep 01 09 at 1:38 pm

The quiverful movement has many cultist qualities. Not one of their children look to have their own distinct sense of style or personality.

These folks turn my stomach.

GP commented on Sep 01 09 at 2:06 pm

I have six kids. I can’t imagine more than that. At this point, I am pretty sure that if I tried to have another, I would be wearing my uterus as an ankle bracelet.

To each their own, but the Duggars do bring to mind a statement I read on teh interwebs (granted, it was in reference to the Octomom)
Your Vagina: Its Not a Clown Car.

ceecee and JanB – I know what you mean, but I picture her deliveries looking pretty much like that scene at the start of “Monty Python’s Meaning of Life” – actually I picture her house/life kind of like that too . . . is that too mean?

“Sorry kids, it’s scientific experiments for the lot of you.” (or reality TV, same difference)

I try not to get too caught up in other people’s business, but when I think purely of the environmental impact this family has, I feel angry. This may sound a bit radical, but when you look at the world (over-) population, and the problems we have with storing and destroying trash, supplying clean water, growing healthy foods, etc., I think it’s irresponsible to have an enormous family. What’s the cut-off? I have no idea. I’m not saying that’s for anyone else to decide but the family. But imagine if every family grew to this size—you can see how ridiculously out of control it can get. The mom is only 42, so can we expect another 10 or so kids from that family before nature steps in?

Barb commented on Sep 01 09 at 4:16 pm

I am so tired of hearing about this family and all of their kids. The parents are irresponsible and make me sick!

April commented on Sep 01 09 at 4:20 pm

It’s hard to imagine that every family, most families, or even a significant number of families would find this lifestyle appealing or sustainable, so I have no worries about that. But enter “reality” television and hopes of hitting the famewhore jackpot like Jon and Kate and I don’t know anymore. Maybe if we’d all stop rubbernecking at the perceived carwreck, traffic can move a little faster down life’s highway.

When I was growing up I had a friend who was the eldest of 10 kids. She had to do so much to help out her family. She basically had the responsibilities of an adult. Not only did this take away a huge chunk of her childhood, she couldn’t do as well in school as her ability would allow because she didn’t have a lot of time for homework at night. What a huge disservice to your kids.

I don’t watch the Duggars’ show, so maybe I’m stretching in assuming they make their older kids take care of the younger ones.

Laure68 commented on Sep 01 09 at 5:28 pm

These hillbilly makes the girls do all teh housework and cooking for all the boys. Even though there are many more boys than girls. The older girls also care for the babies and younger kids. The little kings do not. When asked what they wanted to be when they grew up one girl said a beautician the rest said a mom with lots of kids. Poor brainwashed drones. None of the boys said they wanted to be a dad with lots of kids.

Ali commented on Sep 01 09 at 6:48 pm

Clearly, most of you who have commented don’t watch the show. These children are polite, kind, and happy. Having a lot of children is Jim Bob and Michelle’s choice. Or are most of you only “pro-choice” when it comes to whether or not to abort a child?

Amanda B commented on Sep 02 09 at 11:54 am

Frankly I dont think it is anyone’s business how many kids the Duggars have! They are a stable family and if they can affrs another kid and it isnt medically risky for her to have a baby and the baby is healthy too why not have another one??? Seriously we have plenty more to worry about and waste our indignation on than the Duggar family! They are not living on our tax payer money why is their family expansion any of our business. I say live and let live people. On http://www.truuconfessions.com many have given their views some negative some positive a large group and dverse views make this subject interesting. But I still think Michelle Duggar’s womb is NOT MY BUSINESS!

Sue commented on Sep 02 09 at 2:23 pm

I’m kinda to each their own as long as the kids are well taken care of. They seem to be, even if their religious leanings are not my cup of tea. However, I agree with the environmental thing. You’d think they’d use cloth diapers – at the very least they would save a LOT of money.

I’m wondering if she did ecological breastfeeding if she would have as many kids. My husband and I practice natural family planning, but we also do extended breastfeeding and co-sleeping which I think has planyed a major role in our babies being three and four years apart. Maybe someone should send her a copy of Sheila Kippley’s book.

Mom of 3 – Read a bit about the Quiverful Movement. “Spacing” is not the intent.
