Mother Pleads with Authorities to Stop Her “Dangerous” Daughter from Having Babies
Kate Elizabeth Hutchinson, a 36-year-old psychiatric ward patient, recently gave birth to her 6th or 7th child (no one knows for sure). This after birthing all her former children with different fathers, having all stripped from her care and one, according to police, possibly murdered. Two of the woman’s children were born with autism and another died of muscular dystrophy four years ago.
Now her mother, Helen, is begging authorities to step in.
“Somebody, please, somebody has to do something to stop her from having any more babies,” Helen Hutchinson said last week. The grandmother cites mental unfitness, drug and alcohol abuse during the pregnancies and even ties to a satanic cult as reasons for authorities to take action against her daughter’s further breeding.
Helen began caring for her daughter’s children since she gave birth to the first at the age of 16.
Police believe Hutchinson knows the whereabouts of her allegedly murdered daughter, but the woman is unwilling to tell.
The grandmother further reveled there may be yet a second missing child.
Kate Hutchinson was released from a psychiatric unit last week and has since been reportedly wandering aimlessly in a distressed state.
The subject of taking a woman’s right to procreate has come up before. In other cases, the women were too developmentally disabled to care for their children. In such a case as this, what do you think can and should be done? If Hutchinson should be stripped of her right to have more children, how exactly could authorities exact that order?

Ali commented on Aug 31 09 at 11:13 amShould have been done years ago. Having children is not a “Right” it is a privelege. They can be removed from your custody after all. I personally know of a woman who was ordered to have her tubes tied, paid for by the state, for similar offenses. The judge said it was costing too much money to keep placing her abandoned, neglected and abused children in foster care and pay for their mouting medical bills. She had 6 kids, all were removed from her custody, two from the hospital as newborns after tey tested positive for several drugs. These children will have life long disabilities. There is no telling how many she left to die somewhere, gave away, sold for drugs or neglected to death. A woman can have a baby each year and some think she may have had many more that did not survive. This happens everywhere and with the rise of Meth addiction (Thanks to Sudafed still being legal!) it is growing worse. Expect to see many more cases like this.
PlumbLucky commented on Aug 31 09 at 12:12 pmAli - off topic, but why should Sudafed NOT be legal? (There are other common items used to make meth…more common than Sudafed)
This woman proves that “blanket statements are a bad thing” because normally I would say that the state has ZERO say in reproductive health.
Lauren commented on Aug 31 09 at 1:23 pmI think the state should stay out of reproduction. But hey forced sterilization is still legal in this country so why not!
K. C. commented on Sep 01 09 at 6:00 pmI would have no problem with the government staying out of it as long as the government, in turn, would quit supporting the women who continue to have babies they can’t afford.
Jack commented on Oct 09 09 at 8:20 pmThis is very contravoersial, first it has to be proved that the child died. You would think that the woman’s mother knew more about her daughters children especially if she is taking care of them.
Does her mother care enough to take this unfortunate psychiatric patient into her care, (after all she is her own daughter) before she dictates her sterilisation.
If her daughter is unable to take care of the children she brings into this world, why was the missing girl in her care at all, since the previous 3 children were already in the woman’s mother’s care, WHY NOT THE MISSING CHILD?… sound very strange to me.
Does this unfortunate woman’s mother have any contact with her psychiatric patient daughter at all?
