Tunisia Woman Says She’s Carrying 12 Babies
Still shocked over OctoMom? A woman in Tunisia says she’s got twelve fetuses cooking inside her belly, and she’s keeping them ALL.
Not yet identified, the woman is apparently a teacher with a history of miscarriage. She and her husband sought fertility treatments thinking at first that they might have twins. Then came the doctor’s news – six female fetuses and six male.
As reported in the Sun this week, the woman has allegedly refused to listen to doctors to selectively reduce the number of fetuses. Multiple pregnancies carry with them greater risks for both mother and her fetuses, and the risks increase with the numbers (and, inversely, decrease with a reduction of fetuses).
The hue and cry around OctoMom Nadya Suleman earlier this year was largely centered on her six children already living at home, her lack of a job and her single status. This mom, by contrast, is married with a career, although there’s not enough information out to tell whether she has children at home or not.
But there should be the same outcry – at the mom for taking such an incredible risk with her children, and even more so at the irresponsible doctor who allowed for a pregnancy that carries with it not just the risk but the expectation that a set of parents would suddenly be parenting as much as twelve children at once.

Of course, early on in gestation, a woman could carry many fetus’ but it’s only a matter of time before so many can not be physically sustained. A woman’s body was not designed to have this many babies. Did we learn nothing from Nadya Suleman’s situation? Kate Gosselin’s body was stretched to the max with six. If this story is true, should any of these 12 babies even survive, the chance of them being healthy is doubtful.
