Morning News – Yang Beats Woods in PGA

ye yang wins pga beats tiger woods Morning News Yang Beats Woods in PGAStarting off with some sports news, and its big stuff: Tiger Woods lost the PGA title. South Korea’s Y.E. Yang beat him. He was ranked 110 in the world. Probably not anymore, though.

Here is video of Tiger Woods not quite making a putt.

Tiger doesn’t look happy.

(I don’t think this is the final shot but I’m not sure because the audio isn’t in English.)

And a fan-made video that’s kind of funny. Just photos and music but only 30 seconds long.

More sports: Usain Bolt ran 100-meters in 9.58 seconds, which was good enough for a gold medal at the World Athletic Championships in Berlin. Bolt’s time was good for a world record as well, and he is — wait for it — “the world’s fastest man.” I said this during the Olympics, and I’ll say it again. Could someone please check and see if he can play football, American football, and then sign him to the Giants? Second place went to an American runner that everyone keeps referring to as “Gay”, which I really think is inappropriate. Who cares what his sexual orientation is? I mean, look at this headline:

And this picture:

They make the guy wear it on his shirt! It’s just wrong. In this day and age, in 2009, you would think that…

Oh wait. That’s his name? Nevermind. (Thank you, Emily Litela aka Gilda Radner.)

In more serious news, the public-option may not make it into the final version of health care legislation. I know this is an uninformed statement, but I’ll make it anyway. The point of a national health care plan is so that everyone in the nation has health insurance. This can be done. It should be done. Of course, the devil is in the details. But I hope a bill passes that gives health insurance to everyone. Anyway, the possibility of no public-option comes as Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius said that “a government-run insurance option is not essential to President Obama’s healthcare goals.”

The mayor of Milwaukee was attacked with a metal pipe. Sheesh. And they say New York is tough.

Back to unimportant, easy to digest news: it’s your weekend movie box office!

In first place was “District 9″, which I haven’t seen but looks really cool. $37,000,000. Not bad for a movie that reportedly cost just $30 million to make. “G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra” came in second with $22,500,000, a 58% drop but it brought the film to $98,753,000 total in 2 weeks. (Of course, if the budget is really $175 million like it says on BoxOfficeMojo, that’s not enough. Sorry Joe.) “The Time Traveler’s Wife” came in third with $19,205,000, “Julie & Julia” took fourth place with $12,400,000 ($43,684,000 cume), and “G-Force” held on to the fifth spot with $6,908,000 ($99,049,000 cume). Other films that opened this weekend were “The Goods: Live Hard, Sell Hard” with $5,350,000 (maybe people realized they could see Jeremy Piven do the same thing on HBO for free — well, not free exactly, but you know what I mean). “Ponyo“, the latest animated flick from Japanese director Hayao Miyazaki, sold only $3,506,000 worth of tickets despite the Disney marketing machine behind it. And “Bandslam”, which stars Vanessa “What? Me Naked?” Hudgens and inexplicably features a cameo by David Bowie, made only $2,250,000 in more than 2,000 theaters. Can I get a “HA ha”?

Thank you.
