Enraged Dad Hits Daughter with … Pizza

819245 pizza inbox Enraged Dad Hits Daughter with ... PizzaIn Gainsville, Florida, it’s illegal to hit your child with a slice of pizza, no matter how insanely mad she makes you.

A 38-year-old man asked his daughter to get off the computer.  She apparently didn’t like his tone — nor his choice of (racist, sexist) words, so — like many kids her age — the girl fired off a few remarks of her own.

Shortly after, his head came clear off his shoulders and his brain exploded.  Or at least, I figure it must have, because then he picked up a slice of pizza and threw it at her.  The girl called 911, and dad’s sporting a brand-new felony charge:child abuse without great harm.

Sigh.

We all know kids can be frustrating.  I got my first ever eyeroll the other day from my 6-year-old.  Soon to be followed, I’m sure, by a heavy sigh and a “whatever.”  But there’s one golden rule of dealing with defiance — besides those no-brainers that you don’t hit your kids and you don’t call them names:  Never let them know when they’ve gotten the best of you.

Which clearly, dude, you did.  Next time, take that pizza and eat it.  It’ll keep your mouth busy while you do some deep breathing and count to ten.

Clearly there aren’t enough details in this story to know whether this was really just a dad gone mad or an abusive situation.  But if he’s not a chronic abuser, do you think the dad should have been arrested?

Yes, i do think the Dad needed to be arrested, if only to give him a reality check. But ido believe a felony charge was a bit excesive, unless there are more reports to prove he is abusive. Maybe just a misdemenor or a warning, with required parenting and meditation classes…

I got a kick out of this: “Deputy Nick Vickers says the man used racist and sexist terms when he asked his daughter to turn off her computer, and she fired back with some crude language of her own.”

He ‘asked’ her to turn of the computer? What kind of request would include racist or sexist language? I would guess that was more likely a command. “Honey, would you please get your ***** ***** ***** off the computer?” doesn’t strike me as very effective, but I suppose the guy resorted to pizza tossing too so he’s probably not that bright.

No way should he have been charged, unless there was a serious history of complaints. A slice of pizza?

Maybe my family wasn’t as normal as I thought. I was never abused, but my parents both have a healthy temper and teenagers being notoriously contrary as they are, we fought. Sometimes things got tossed, or slammed. We are going overboard claiming abuse and mistreatment at every turn.

Vickers says the father “intentionally threw a slice of pizza at the victim, striking her in the back of the neck, against her will.”

That is the funniest part. Against her will? Like he should have asked first.

Seriously, though, that sounds like some bad parenting. I don’t think it should be considered a felony, but it wasn’t cool.

That’s so stupid. She’s just a brat I’d be ashamed to have her as my child. She is obviously VERY spoiled, so I guess he sort of dug his own grave there.

What was the charge, stupidity? How in the world is doing something dumb that makes you look like a fool to your child against the law?
