Fred Figglehorn and Facebook – Top 100 Internet Searches by Kids
While kids were soaking up the sun at the beach, pool, or camp this summer, they were also going online in droves. And Symantec has spent their summer figuring out exactly what kids were looking for when they logged in.
OnlineFamily.Norton sorted through 3.5 million searches made through their service between February and July of this year, and posted their top 100. They include:
Websites: Kids are looking for popular social networking sites like Youtube, Facebook, and MySpace.
Celebrities: Michaels Jackson’s death didn’t escape the MySpace generation. They also searched for — big surprise! — Miley Cyrus, Taylor Swift, Lady Gaga, and Lil Wayne.
Games: Favorite gaming sites include Addicting Games, Runescape, and Halo. Webkinz and Poptropica are still popular, too.
Songs: Hit songs this summer include: “Boom Boom Pow” (Black Eyed Peas), “The Climb” (Miley Cyrus), “Kiss Me Through the Phone” (Soulja Boy).
Curiosities: The ninth most popular search was for “Fred.” Who is Fred? He’s Fred Figglehorn, a fictional YouTube phenomenon (see image, above). Also, “dictionary,” which means at least a few kids out there spent their summer doing more than watching YouTube.
The usual: Sex and porn made the top 10, with boobs trailing not too far behind.

As a parent, does this list enlighten you at all? And if you had the Internet when you were a teen, what do you think you would have searched for?
