Rockin’ Jeopardy Contest Recites Kids Poem in One Breath
Remember being forced to memorize lengthy poems in grade school? Or maybe you’re facing the unenviable task of sitting through hours of “Thirty days hath September, April, June and . . . Mooooom, what’s next?”
Might we provide them with a little inspiration to get the job done?
Behold Michael Vanderbilt, a guy who appeared on Jeopardy last year (a friend sent me this yesterday) and recited a popular kids’ poem . . . in one breath.
Recognize it? It’s Jabberwocky by Lewis Carroll (better known as the author of Alice in Wonderland), which we read in middle school. It appeared in an Alice sequel and was one of my favorites growing up (the words “frumious bandersnatch” did it for me – they sounded gloriously like a monster worthy of my opposition).
I can’t say a single one of my English teachers would have offered up extra credit for this rendition – they were too focused on us inflecting meaning into the fun that is the Jabberwock, my son.
Can your kids get through the tongue twists before the borogroves get them?
