It sounds like we’re not going to have national health care by Friday. Unlike some people, I don’t think this is some sort of major league failure for President Obama. I ranted about this over at DaddyTips.com, click here to read it.

You know what makes up 10% of health care costs? Obesity, according to ABC News. So put down that sandwich and go for a jog. This hasn’t stopped senators from eating junk food while they negotiate the health care bill, however. Irony? Perhaps.

President Obama, Professor Henry Louis Gates Jr. and Cambridge police Sargent James Crowley may have a beer at the White House this week.  But GatesGate (hopefully I’m the only one calling it that) hasn’t gone away yet. The Christian Science Monitor says that “police experts” feel that while Professor Gates over-reacted, officer Crowley “appeared to let the situation spiral out of control.” Why isn’t “they were both wrong” a satisfactory answer for anyone?

News flash: if you are driving and sending text messages at the same time, that increases the chance that you will drive less well and crash into something. No, really. How is this something that required a study? Are there really people out there that think “Oh, I can drive and also use my hands to send text messages at the same time?” I mean, yes. There are people who think that. But that’s really dumb.

The Dow is up AND the Nasdaq is up. That’s right. Take that, suckas. (I’m not sure who exactly I’m calling a “sucka.” But it seemed like the right way to go.)

A little sports news:

“Mets executive Tony Bernazard reportedly challenged the club’s Double-A team to fight him during a recent postgame tirade,” according to ESPN. And they fired him for that? C’mon. Mets GM Omar M; inaya also called out Daily News reporter Adam Rubin; Rubin apparently is the one who wrote about Bernazard’s behavior which led to the firing. Minaya sort of accuses Rubin of wanting a Mets’ front office job. But as Deadspin puts it, who the hell would want to work for the Mets? Here’s a video, which is at best weird.

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell has “conditionally reinstated” Michael Vick. Assuming there’s a team out there that wants to sign him, he can attend meetings and practices and play preseason football. After that, he “could” play in an actual game starting in Week 6, which is in October. (Sadly, the same does not apply to the song “Who Let The Dogs Out.” The Baha Men could not be reached for comment.) Vick is being mentored by former Colts coach Tony Dungy, and has the support of Buffalo Bills receiver Terrell Owens. Well, having one of those people in his corner could be helpful. Personally, I think what Vick did was terrible, but considering the fact that there are other players in the league convicted of serious crimes who were allowed to come back, it would be hypocritical to keep Vick out.
