Parents Raise Hell About Nude Sculpture
South Florida parents are up in arms because the local mall had the audacity to display a work of art involving subtle nudity outside the shopping center. The PTA president of a nearby elementary school emailed parents asking them to complain to authorities and the mall owner.
Really, couldn’t they have put up a nice Disney display with Cinderella or Snow White, like a normal mall? We all know that depictions of large-breasted, tiny-waisted beauties do wonders for children’s development.
But no–instead Addison Plaza shopping center had to display a sculpture by renowned artist Itzik Asher, which depicts a family of either Ethiopian or Russian Jews traveling from their homes to Israel.
This is a great opportunity for parents to discuss the history behind this piece of art. It’s not as if Asher wanted to depict a family enjoying a nude romp for the hell of it–nor is their genitalia the most striking aspect of the piece.
But apparently, some parents would simply rather pretend that the human body does not exist.
“My daughter has been joking about it,” said parent Jeffrey Cohen. “She shouldn’t be talking to me about this.” If that’s your attitude, Mr. Cohen, I have no doubt that your daughter will have no problem keeping you in the dark about her personal life as she gets older.

Larissa commented on Jul 24 09 at 6:56 pmWhen I was a kid there was a statue in an office park near the mall by our home that I called “my bunny statue”. We moved from there when I was barely 15 and then I went back for a visit w/my mom a few years later, and happened to be near the mall. “Oh!” sez I, “We can go see My Bunny Statue”
My mother, attempting to keep a straight face, tells me that it isn’t a bunny at all, but rather a naked woman. My point being, children are innocent, it is the parents who have the problem.
