Orphan Update: Ridiculous Surprise Twist

orphan opt1 201x300 Orphan Update: Ridiculous Surprise TwistOkay. For all of you that got your panties in a bunch over the representation of adoption in the film Orphan …take a big deep breath.  The horror/thriller has a big and I mean big twist at the end. A twist so unreal and completly unplausible that the idea of boycotts, protests and that the adoption community would be upset seems silly albetit well intentioned. Wanna know the reported twist ? (SPOILER ALERT ) Don’t read past the below trailer if you don’t want to know. (Via Gawker)

The Orphan ain’t a kid at all!

“Esther is really a 33-year-old woman who was born with proportional dwarfism which causes her to have the appearance of a child. She also happens to be a former prostitute, who had wealthy pedophiles for clients. The reason why she has her neck covered is because she was once in asylum and she struggled so much in her straitjacket that it left with her deep scars on her neck.”

Yup. The “Orphan” is actually a ex-hooker drawf in her 30s. Oh Hollywood, you so silly.  Sadly, knowing this twist actually makes me want to see the film just to see how they lay out a plot that outrageous.

Does knowing this ending make you want to see the film more or less?

I commented somewhere else on Strollerderby that was the twist and I could not wait to see it. Plus I LOVE horror movies. I’m due this week though, so I don’t think right now is the best time to head out to the movie theatre. Would probably rent it anyways. You want to see a terrifying movie with killer children though, check out Joshua which also stars Vera Farmiga along with Sam Rockwell. In that one it is their own kid and the things he does make him so much worse than your run of the mill adopted kid that just wants to get rid of the competition villain.

How long until the American Association of Short Hookers gets their pasties in a knot?

Ha ha. Weren’t some of those bunched-panties on a couple of the Strollerderby bloggers? And isn’t bunched panties an intolerably sexist phrase?

Sorry, but just because it has a dumb twist (which is also offensive) doesn’t mean it isn’t obnoxious as far as adoption messages go. The message is still: god only knows what horror awaits those who adopt older children!

Panties still wadded over here.
