How to Help 8-Year-Old AC/DC Fan
The video’s of a kid with a guitar singing “Back in Black,” how can you not want him to win his first visit to an AC/DC concert?
According to the Toronto Star, the majority of folks voting on the AC/DC Ultimate Fan Experience were behind 8-year-old “biggest fan” Josh until sponsors Bell/MSN Sympatico somehow lost all the votes. And all of a sudden the kid who’d been leading his two adult competitors was way behind in the count.
Within two days of the posting, he was at least twenty percent ahead of his nearest competitor. Then came the reset – a move Bell defended because only two of the competitors’ videos were uploaded to the site at the time voting opened. By deleting thousands of votes, they said they leveled the playing field. They also made up for the two missing days by extending voting from July 24 to July 26 (this Sunday night). The only problem? There went the kid’s backing.
But with the Star story and an internet movement to give the kid back what’s rightfully his, Josh, a Niagara Falls kid who proclaims “I may be small but I’m a true rock and roll fan,” is now moving ahead in the voting.
Of more than one hundred twenty-two thousand votes, fifty-two percent now belong to Josh.
Watch the video, and can you blame people for getting behind him? I mean Dale and Dean (who also put in videos on why they should win) might rock, but they’re just not as cute (not even with Dale’s sexy Canadian accent . . . and Dean, please put your shirt back on – thanks).
There is the occasional hater out there – like the commenter here who can’t believe an eight-year-old could be a fan of AC/DC. But let’s do the math there folks – if he’s eight, chances are his parents grew up in the eighties (his mom is twenty-nine) . . . which means he was probably conceived to Angus and Malcolm head-banging to “You Shook Me All Night Long” and cutting teeth to the sounds of “Rock and Roll Ain’t Noise Pollution.”
Trust me – he’s a fan, albeit an indoctrinated one. And in that case, my congratulations go out to his parents for saving him from a childhood of Jonas Brothers worship. I salute you!
He’s got my vote, just give me a second to add “Thunderstruck” to my daughter’s section of my iPod.
Want to help him get front row seats at every concert on the AC/DC tour? Vote here.
