Does Murder Run in the Family? Porn King’s Son Arrested

200px behindthegreendoor 199x300 Does Murder Run in the Family? Porn Kings Son ArrestedThe other night while I was watching TV,  there was an Amber Alert interruption of the all local programming.  The odd thing about this Northern California alert was the amount of detail included – a man was being sought for kidnapping his one-year-old daughter and for killing the mother with a baseball bat. Authorities had the suspect’s name and the make, model and license number of the getaway car. The info about being on the look out for the suspect was all well and good, but the manner of how the mother was killed being included was alarming…especially in the middle of watching Bridezilla (yeah, I know…it’s a guilty pleasure).

Now the story gets interesting. The murder/kidnapping suspect? James Mitchell. He is the son of Jim Mitchell of the notorious adult entertainment empire The Mitchell Brothers and the director of the ‘porn classic’ “Behind the Green Door”. The same Jim Mitchell who had killed his own brother/business partner when James was just eight-years-old.

With a restraining order issued by his ex-girlfriend Danielle Keller, James went to her mother’s house and allegedly murdered her in the backyard. He then fled with their crying one-year-old daughter Samantha – who had just been celebrating her first birthday party at the home. They were found about five hours later outside of Sacramento, California.

This begs the question, when a parent kills someone close to them does the offspring – perhaps subconsciously – see this as an option? Two generations committing murder – in what seems like a crime of passion -  is rare. But how much does a life event such as your dad killing your uncle affect the rest of your life and perhaps your moral scale? Coincidence? I think not.

Stop thinking. There is no connection. Your line of thinking is straight out of The National Enquirer/Jean Dixon/numerology/aurareading camp. Use a bit of logic and reason for a change.

Also, typos and other errors are even more glaring when they’re in the title of your post. It really can’t be that hard to just look things over before you publish. Everyone makes mistakes, but it’s like you’re not even trying.

Thanks Manjari! I posted this while being in a big hurry while trying to get a little one ready for preschool. So much for multi-tasking! Thanks for the heads up on the typos.

Not sure how the latest murder can be a crime of passion – sounds like he had to go out of his way to do it (isn’t a crime of passion along the lines of discovering your sig other screwing another in your house and getting so wound up you kill sig other?). The fact that the ex had a restraining order says something right there…

Ali, are you a district attorney? it sures sounds like you’re trying to prepare a case against Mitchell right now. “There is no connection.” Flat-out. No possible way a son experiencing the aftermath of your father murdering your uncle, as well as the personality of the man parenting you being a man who killed his own brother, could possibly have any effect on a person? To deny the possibility is ludicrous, and ignores the complete body of work behind the studies of mental illness or even cause-and-effect analysis.
“Use a bit of logic and reason for a change”? What the hell is THAT? Maybe this lack of respect is the reason you still live under your parents bedroom, can’t find a job and have a restraining order against you.

I have no opinion about the Mitchells, though I did attend the same high school as they did. However, I didn’t know either or even realize the connection until several years later.

A note on the last paragraph: “to beg the question” doesn’t mean what you think it does. It doesn’t mean to raise or suggest a question but rather it means to answer the question in a circular manner. Think Sarah Palin answering Katie Couric’s question about what newspapers she reads.

Just sayin’.
