matt moniz 207x300 Kid Will Climb 14 Mountains in 14 Days He’s eleven, and he’s already climbed three of the world’s biggest mountains. And now he’s tackling fourteen summits of fourteen thousand feet apiece.

And if that’s not enough, Matt Moniz says he’s going to do the whole shebang within fourteen days. Um, wow?

As if he’s not already earned “super kid” status with that whole spiel, Moniz is actually doing this to raise money for his best friend, a nine-year-old with pulmonary arterial hypertension, a disease that puts pressure on both the heart and the lungs.

It’s why he picked “14 Fourteeners in 14 Days.” According to Moniz’s Website, covering more than thirty-six thousand vertical feet and sixty-five miles in a fortnight will allow him to feel what it’s like for his buddy, Iain Hess, to struggle with breathing every day. And it helps that Moniz’s track record (he’s reached the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro among his other major feats) has enabled him to get sponsors for the whole gig, so he can pad the pockets of Hess’ family, who spend as much as $100,000 a year on medical bills for ther son.

Or you can donate right on his site, where the Moniz family has been putting up updates since the whole climb started on Friday. There are pictures and details of the trek – and how Iain’s story is touching other people – on the site.

I so wish that he’d instead give all the money he’s wasting on this vacation to the family….
