This new patch was inspired by none other than Dolly Parton.  The legendary singer, entertainer and, of course, founder of Dollywood has partnered with the Girl Scouts of Tanasi Council to launch the “Coat of Many Colors” patch program. No, this is not to honor Dolly’s most famous assets or her standing as a ‘hillbilly Barbie’. The “Coat of Many Colors” patch is based on “taking pride in yourself – no matter the circumstances.”

The patch was inspired Dolly ditty from 1971 which told the story about wearing a coat to school made by her mom from rags. When she wore the jacket to school, her classmates made fun of the young Dolly.  But she turned that frown upside down and years later crafted herself a great big money making hit – Dolly so got the last laugh.

To celebrate the global rollout of the new patch –which celebrates self-esteem and having compassion for others – the first 450 East Tennessee girls who earned one went to the Dollywood theme park, met Dolly and she sang for them a rendition of “The Coat of Many Colors”.

Let’s hope there is never a Amy Whinehouse “Rehab” badge.
