The Best Fast Food in the Country Is…
The Zagats, arbiters of all things restaurant-y, have turned their white tablecloth-loving attentions to the hoi polloi. Introducing, the 2009 Zagat Fast-Food Survey.
I know you’re just dying to know what the top-rated fast-food burger is, so I won’t keep you in suspense any longer. The winner is…
In-N-Out. Followed by Wendy’s, Burger King, McDonald’s, and finally, Whataburger.
Top fries, obviously, McDonald’s, followed by Burger King, In-N-Out, Wendy’s, and Chick-fil-A.
Best coffee? Starbucks. Best fried chicken? KFC. Best salad? Panera Bread. You can read the full results here.
I am no big fan of fast-food, though of course I partake occasionally (as do my children, though not as often as they like). But for me, the whole point of fast-food is that it’s, well, fast. It’s right there. It’s on my way home from school, or on the highway on a road trip, or right next to wherever I happen to be. I don’t seek it out.
So I wonder how useful these rankings really are. If you’re thinking to yourself, I really want a great burger, do you turn to the Zagat ratings for fast-food or do you go to your local burger joint for a thick, juicy burger for a few dollars more?
Do you think these ratings are helpful? Will you forgo Popeye’s for KFC next time you have a hankering for fast fried chicken?

TetaZdena commented on Jun 10 09 at 6:36 pmIn n Out fries taste like ass. The burgers are good but only b/c they have the most onions on any fast food burger. Other than that the patties are small and the thousand island dressing is the same old stuff.
