winnie the pooh log1 Disney Gettin’ All Old School

Sometimes the old way is the best way. With the high tech animation and ultra modern look of recent cartoon features like the Tales of Despereaux, Wall-E and Shrek, it’ll be refreshing when Disney comes out with a film that won’t be technically advanced, shockingly stylish and created in a wholly unoriginal way. Their next Winnie the Pooh feature will be entirely hand drawn.

Disney will be returning to their roots with a film not created on a computer but with old fashioned ink, pen and paper. Yes, it’s time consuming. Yes, it’s tedious. Yes, it’s expensive. But it’s also human - with animation that has a soul and an aura which is sometimes lacking in the modern super sleek and stylized cartoons of today. Disney created some of the most memorable, and as cheesy as it sounds, magical animated films ever. They know how to do it, and do it well.

But you will have to have patience for this upcoming film that just in the development stages. The Winnie the Pooh feature, which will have a wide theatrical release won’t be out until 2011. Those Disney animators have their work cut out.

What’s your favorite old school Disney movie?

My husband is an animator and he will be very excited about this. I personally do not care for the look of computer animation at all. It has such a lifeless, floaty look to it.
