Pinterest Logo 1024x259 Combining Me Time & Social Media with PinterestAre you on Pinterest yet? If not, my apologies in advance for getting you hooked.  I joined a few months ago and I think it’s brilliant.  Whenever I need to unwind at the end of the evening or am looking for something mindless to do that uplifts the spirits and entertains, I find myself turning to Pinterest.  What the heck is it? It’s basically a collection of mood boards.  People “pin” things that they love or are inspired by on “boards” and share them.  You can add things that you see around the web (or anywhere) to your boards and also re-pin things on other’s boards onto yours. That’s where the social element comes in.  You can also “like” others’ pins and/or leave comments on them too. Sounds simple enough right? So what’s the big deal?

3 Reasons Why I Love Pinterest:

It’s Pretty. Do I really need another reason? Pinterest is an ocean of gorgeous photos of food (lots of food), fashion, homes and home decor, quotes, people and things.  What better to make you smile than a plate of ooey gooey brownies or a colorful hand-knitted scarf.  In addition to being pretty, it’s also serene.  The layout and the seamless flow of the site makes it…quiet.  There’s no ads, no need to hit “next page,” and no real clicking about necessary.  The minds behind the site make it so easy to use and…

It Doesn’t Demand Much. Just scroll! That’s it. If you like something, click “like.”  If you want to leave a comment, then do.  If you want to re-pin it, just hit the button. And keep on movin’ – looking at more pretty things.  Of course, I am describing Pinterest from the lazy P.O.V. – I rarely add an original pin to my boards; I almost always re-pin others’ brilliant pins.

It Inspires. There is a plethora of inspiration on Pinterest.  Whether your vice is entertaining (me!), fitness, style or DIY, there will undoubtedly be some fabulous ideas for you waiting on your friends’ boards.  I know people that are using Pinterest to gather ideas for their upcoming wedding or kid’s birthday party or a home renovation.

So the next time your email inbox is on overload, Twitter crashes and Facebook adds spam to your Wall, take a break from it all and dive into an inspirational, stress-free, sea of gorgeous over on Pinterest.

WARNING: It’s addictive.  Just remember to set the kitchen timer.
