Kid Scoop
Beachy Keen
Addie’s first trip to the beach was when she was about 3; I was in Southern California with my mom and we spent the afternoon at a beach in La Jolla. Someone gave her a little plastic bucket and shovel and she spent HOURS digging holes, hunting for shells and running around like a little kid set free. I’m not sure what it’s like for kids who get to go to the beach on a fairly regular basis, but for Addie it’s quite possibly the one place on Earth where she can just BE and DO.
We’re in Northern Florida for a week as a little winter respite as a family. There are miles of white sandy beaches just outside our door and right before Addie went to bed she asked if we could spend the entire day at the beach tomorrow.
Of course we can, kid.
We picked up an absolutely spectacular sand castle building set this afternoon (it’s still way too cold to get into the water) and we walked along the beach gathering shells for a little bit, when we got back to the hotel she washed them, sorted them and ranked them in order of favorites. We honestly have no plans while we’re here except to swim at the pool, hang out on the beach and hang out with each other. I know that would have been the most perfect vacation ever for the 7-year-old me and that it is as well for 7-year-old Addie as well.
