But since we don’t live in an ideal world, there are times when I need a little help.

Once we’ve exhausted arts and crafts and toys and every other solo activity and there are things that I just have to get done, the iPad is my best friend.

For me to pay for an kids’ app, it has to meet one of three specific criteria: it must teach something that my daughter needs to learn, foster her creativity, or allow me to squeeze in a shower.

And if it can do all three? I’m in love.

Here are my ten favorite apps for kids.

Happy showering!

The PBS Kids Video iPad app is one of my daughter’s go-to apps. She can find all of her favorite characters from PBS Kids and watch streaming video right on her iPad. Though less interactive than some of the other apps, this is still one of our absolute favorites and is often the only thing that helps me to squeeze in a shower some mornings! (Free)

I think this one (Elfishki and the Giant Cake) should be on your list at #11. Got it for my 6 and 8 year old – this was the first time I ever seen them sit and read a book together (and for 20 min too)! :)

I have Doodle Buddy too, but I warn toddler moms… They will find the most annoying- sounding stamp and do it 50 times. My son especially likes the dog stamps which includes a little piece of poo. Great grandma was not amused.
