Getting Healthy for the Right Reasons

Well, maybe. We have to first stop and ask ourselves, are our reasons for getting healthy sustainable? I’ll be honest with you, my reasons in the past haven’t been. I’ve mistaken “skinny” for healthy a million times over and the two are not the same.

We’ve all looked in the mirror and felt discouraged. I’ve vlogged about swimsuit shopping hell and the horror of looking at my pant size and thinking, “Whoa! Not good!” A friend of mine referred me to the most amazing website I’ve seen in a long time called My Body Gallery where real women share real pictures of themselves in a powerful movement to allow us to ourselves more clearly. I typed in my height, weight, pants size and poof! I saw a beautiful gallery of real women with my very same body. It felt good. I felt proud. I realized my journey toward better health wasn’t just one of vanity, but longevity. It was a big “a-ha” moment for me.

Building a better you is multi-faceted. Achieving emotional, spiritual and physical health is a long and tedious journey with no shortcuts. The task can seem daunting at times but I have to remind myself that every baby step I take toward total wellness is still a step in the right direction.

The best is yet to come; my body tells me so.
