This Mom Could Use a Sick Day
I started feeling sick on Monday night.
There was tightness in my chest and then a headache that began shortly thereafter.
When I woke up on Tuesday, there was no doubt that I had what was the beginning of a nasty cold.
But, I wasn’t sick enough that I would use a sick day.
Then, when I woke up yesterday, I was much worse and would have absolutely called in sick.
You know, if moms got sick days.
I’m not feeling any better today and Katie woke up sick, too.
I suspect it’s only a matter of time before her brother catches the ick from us.
How do you get through the day when you have small children and no sick days?
Can you either share your tips with me here or come over and watch my angels while I take a three-hour nap?
Because I’m pretty sure it isn’t good for them to be just parked in front of PBS Kids.
Right?

Rachel {at} Mommy Needs a Vacation commented on Jan 19 12 at 5:47 pmA-MEN. WHY do we not get sick days!!!! My husband has them all of the time but he would never stay home from work to take care of the kids when I was sick.
I vote for the parking in front of PBS Kids!
Nichole commented on Jan 19 12 at 5:53 pmThe trouble is Craig usually can shift his schedule around and stay home with me if I’m the kind of sick where death is imminent. But for a nasty cold? Not so much.
Eileen @ Bringing Up Bronwyn commented on Jan 19 12 at 6:04 pmThe advice I’ve been given on sick days. There is no such thing as too much tv for those days.
PBS Kids, Disney, Nick Jr/Nick, ANYTHING that gets you through, will be ok.
And if you need anything, let me know! I’ll throw it at your front door and run. ;)
Leigh Ann commented on Jan 19 12 at 6:17 pmOh I wrote a post about how I wanted to be sick and get taken care of like my husband and my kids…then I got sick. It was the day of their Christmas program. It was a Monday, which is Hubs’ busiest day at work. After MDO I just sat them down to watch a movie while I dozed on the couch until he came home early and sent me to bed. It was awful. The kids were REALLY good, but when they did get little rambunctious, I would get up, corral them back to the couch and croak, “Mommy’s very sick…please be good.” I think it freaked them out enough that they behaved :) So yeah, my fantasies of being sick never play out like they should. And the headache from no coffee was way worse than the stomach bug I had.
Elizabeth commented on Jan 19 12 at 6:22 pmOh, I’m so sorry! That totally stinks! It’s never fun being sick with kids and being sick with sick kids is just awful! I wish I had some magical advice, but I say do what you need to do to just get through! Don’t be too hard on yourself! Blessings to you and your lil’ kiddos!
Sherri commented on Jan 19 12 at 6:42 pmI’ll be right there…with NyQuil for you, stuff to keep Matthew busy, and Kelli for Katie. xoxo
Stephanie commented on Jan 19 12 at 7:08 pmEileen is right, this is one of those days where TV is a godsend. Anything to keep them occupied is good!
Kitten commented on Jan 19 12 at 10:18 pmI also declare the TV your best friend in this case. I’m in my eighth month of pregnancy and I had a cold so bad I couldn’t sleep at night due to the coughing. I’ll be damned if my son didn’t watch a record amount of television (and eat healthy snacks I could pour into a bowl) for two or three days while I got back to normal.
