Readers Confess: “The Most Irritating Thing That Other Parents Do Is …”
Last week I let you all in on a few secrets and made some motherhood confessions — the irritating thing that other parents do. Some of you agreed with me, some of you thought I really needed to lighten up and some of you confessed your own irritations about other parents.
I found myself nodding along to some of the irritations you shared, while others left me confused. A confession of irritation that was mentioned a lot was when other parents judge us — funny because many of these confessions do just that.

You say you dislike when people push their parenting style on you but then in a lot of them (especially the nightly activity one) you are judging their parenting style….just saying. I would never take my kids to an inappropriate movie or let my 10 year old buy Call of Duty and sit around and shoot zombies all day. However, if another parent does then I don’t them. I don’t really understand how a child being out to eat with his family at 11:30 can be annoying. If you do not have any school age children then it is really no big deal because they can sleep at any time. The sick one…it depends what kind of sick they are. My son always has a runny nose because he is the kid with asthma who always has a cold or allergies. If he has a runny nose I let the parents know beforehand and let it be there decision. However, if you can go to school without being sent home then you can come to my house. I get upset if someone sends their kid over with a fever but a cold isn’t too big of a deal. Also, I think all kids throw tantrums in public at some point of their life. When my son was little we went to the store and I had let him get a hot wheel car. He started misbehaving so I took it. He screamed the whole time we were in line and I am sure there were many judging eyes since I appeared to not be doing anything….you know what I just spent 2 hours in a Wal-Mart with a 2 year old and I needed the diapers in the cart so I was not about to take him outside to have to do that experience again. I try not to judge when I see a kid throwing a tantrum in a store and I would think most could relate. However, that being said, I did do something to discipline him and it never really happened again so I certainly agree with what you have to say about people not disciplining their children and that of those who over discipline (bully) their children.
