Beyonce Had a Baby: Big Deal, I Had Two
Indeed it’s glorious news whenever a baby is born. It’s totally special and the angels sing (I imagine).
I wasn’t blown away when Beyonce announced her pregnancy. I met the news with utter indifference, despite the fact that I’m a fan. Heck, I’m an even bigger fan of Jay-Z and I still didn’t much care. In fact, I’m an even bigger-huger fan of the baby’s obnoxious-gotta-love-him egomaniac godfather Kanye West and still, Beyonce’s pregnancy announcement was a total “eh” moment for me.
See here’s the thing, women have babies every day. Now I know hip hop divas and moguls don’t produce genetically blessed musical genius babies every day, so when it happens it’s kinda big news. But as for me, I remain unimpressed. I had two babies and no one threw a parade.
I hope I’m not coming off as bitter here because I’m seriously not. I’m happy-ish for my pals Beyonce and Jay-Z, perhaps even as happy as I feel when Twinkies are buy one get one free (which hardly ever happens).
And so, I offer this, the most sincere message I seem to be able to muster to the happy new parents:
Congratulations on your new baby.
Now what’s for dinner?

Yes, congratulations to any new parents and babies!
I absolutely love the name. Blue Ivy.
What do you think about the name?
Erin commented on Jan 09 12 at 7:09 pmI….I don’t know why…..but I’m just so dang excited. They’re just a really awesome couple…at least they SEEM to be. You know, celebrity things can be so contrived and fake. It’s nice to see a couple that appears to be in love doing things that those of us in love do. Like get really excited about the birth of their baby. And I’m right there with them, God help me.

goddess commented on Jan 10 12 at 8:29 amYeah- get the frick OVER yourselves- with requesting ALL workers, doctors, nurses and top administrators in the hospital turn over their phones before starting work AND putting other new parents at extreme inconvenience by your thug bodyguards. Instead of congrats I hope the couple- and the hospital are served with hefty lawsuits by those parents who couldn’t get in to the NICU for hours to see their premature twins, and any others whose mobility and ability to care for their won newborns were similarly hampered . I’m not a fan of arrogant celebrities and I certainly will make sure I never add a cent to their pockets in the future.
Keonté commented on Jan 10 12 at 11:52 amPeople announce they’re pregnant all the time. She’s not the first, and definitely not the last, to announce her pregnancy (next up, Jessica Simpson, Kourtney Kardashian, Hillary Duff…). Heck, people (and bloggers) do it all the time, dedicating an entire ad in the paper or post with a picture of a positive pregnancy test on a blog. It just done on different scales. It’s an exciting time!! Celebrate. People are happy-happy-joy-joy.
No one ever knows the true story– it is Hollywood after all. For the first few hours of her life, the baby was called, “Ivy Blue” and Beyoncé supposedly had a C-section. As it turns out, the baby’s name is “Blue Ivy” and was delivered naturally (via her mom’s website). So, how can we even trust the stories that are coming out? As I recall, neither one of them requested continuous tweets, status updates, or news coverage. This is the life they lead. There is no controlling what the fans do.
I’m happy for any new healthy baby that is brought into this world. If you take the celebrity out, I think they have a right to celebrate their child just as much as the next person.
Oh, did I mention I’m a fan? Ha! I’m sure you couldn’t tell though.
Jan commented on Jan 23 12 at 11:14 pmLMAO oh the realization that you never get a parade just for having spawn. When will parents learn? Guess what missie? My mother had THREE children, two is NOTHING! Ha!
And my Great Grandmother had 17! So Shut up about how hard and yet wonderful it is to be a parent. PLEAZE!
