Kid Scoop
Karbie? Kardashiarbie? Bardashian? No. No to all of it.
Addie is currently sprawled out on the floor pretending to take care of two new babies and a very sick puppy. She’s a doctor that “does it all” she claims. Later she’ll teach some dance lessons to a little girl and tomorrow she’ll be running her own pizzeria, all with the help of her Barbies.
There are rumors swirling about that Barbie and the Kardashians are going to be teaming up on a new line of dolls. Whether it’s having the three Kisters remade as Barbie dolls complete with their proportions or the three sisters designing fashions for Barbie, the chances of these two worlds colliding is a good one. However just because the chances are good, doesn’t mean it’s a good idea.
I’m the mom of a seven-year-old girl who loves Barbies. I have the wallet, and no money from my wallet will ever go towards a Kardashian anything, especially a doll.
Barbie can dream of becoming a fashion designer. Addie can dream of becoming a fashion designer, but c’mon girls, let’s shoot higher than a synthetic fabric collection of leopard print and and high waistlines available at Sears. Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE Sears, for lawnmowers. High fashion? Nope. Not really. The most into fashion I get is Project Runway. I’m quite happy in my average priced well fitting jeans and comfortable sweater.
Barbie has collaborated with some of the best fashion designers on the planet, ones even my husband knows about. We had an amazing display of Barbie fashion on the Indianapolis Children’s museum, not only were there high fashion Barbie dolls, there were actual dresses designed by Vivienne Tam, Alexander McQueen and Yves St. Laurent. I have a hard time believing that any hard core Barbie collector would get excited about a Kardashian Barbie, no one who isn’t in the entertainment or gossip industry that I know of gives a lick about them.
What I know is that the three sisters are famous for being famous. And they got that way because they are rich. One has made an absolute joke out of marriage, has sex tape and one has been arrested for DUI.
Barbie? This is the kind of riff raff you’re going to be calling your “pals?”
I suggest you find better friends or we’ll be finding better dolls.

Lindsey commented on Jan 06 12 at 7:53 pmYou are my hero. Really. That was really well said, without all the profanities I used in my “no more Kardashians” post a few weeks back. I’m going to retweet and share the ever living daylights out of this!!!!
BoycottRealityTV commented on Jan 06 12 at 8:17 pmSeriously, enough with the Kardashians, Boycott!
RK commented on Jan 06 12 at 10:33 pmWhat responsible parent would buy a doll to their child based on a social parasite whose only contribution to the world is a home made porn movie? What kind of play would that doll generate? Instead of saying “I want to grow up and become a princess,” the child will say “I want to grow up and become a pornstar like Kim Kardashian.” This is disgusting, cynical and tasteless. Please parents, boycott Mattel! It is obvious that their goal is not to care for our children’s moral and psychological well being!
Kyliasmommy commented on Jan 07 12 at 8:59 pmI’m not sure how I feel about Barbie alone, but this is too much. Seriously, that is a role model for little girls?? Not for my daughter.
amy commented on Jan 07 12 at 9:38 pmI like barbie dolls and I will admit I like the kardashians. I don’t see whats wrong with the girls designing clothes for the dolls. I’m pretty sure they know that small children will be playing with these dolls. They wont design anything bad. Heck barbie is coming out with a doll that has tattoos on her neck and chest. I think thats worse than clothes. as for their personal life. Regular everyday people get DUI, Couples make sex tapes. and A lot of people get married too quickly or even for the unmoral reasons all togther. such as money. I think this is a good idea. Much better than Bratz dolls or those weird Monster dolls that girls play with.
Jess commented on Jan 07 12 at 10:26 pmI’m going to assume that the Kardashian Barbie is going to be another of those collectible dolls (for grown ups) that completely flop, and end up on the end of the aisle on the clearance shelf.
chrissy commented on Jan 07 12 at 11:15 pmevery now and then ill watch an episode while L is napping but i would never buy big booty barbies…just another unrealistic expectation to push on our young daughters right?
Rebecca commented on Jan 08 12 at 1:11 amSo, by Amy’s logic – this is what real people do – I’m not sure how neck and chest tattoos are any worse than sex tapes and duis. Real people get tattoos all over their bodies. Necks and chests included.
Ellen Carter commented on Jan 08 12 at 9:53 amAmen sister. There are magazines I would normally buy but gon’t because there is Kardashian crap on the front. They are such a waste.
Corey M commented on Jan 10 12 at 12:40 pmWe live in an over sexualized and over idealized world. Girls DO NOT need any more messages telling them that dressing sexy is ok. As parents we have to stop and ask ourselves, “would be want our daughters to act like a Kardashian?” I think most of us would answer that question with a NO! or even HELL NO! So why buy them a doll idolizing a family that is rude, crude, over sexualized, and immoral? I have no problem with the basic and classic barbie or the idea of dressing up a barbie doll in clothes. But, I will not allow my children to play with a tattooed barbie or a Kardashian barbie, or even a barbie that is in a bikini or anything else that is too sexual for little minds. We should be trying to protect our children’s innocents for as long as we can. Lets not teach our young children adult things.
Tiphanee commented on Jan 10 12 at 12:46 pmIf you do your research the Karsashian/Jenner family was rich before they became famous. Sure people make mistakes and I honestly am not a fan of Kim K but just because they made mistakes and are shaped a certain way u can’t judge them. If a big butt will influence your daughter why won’t babies tiny waist? There’s worst things out there than Karsashian dolls. And besides didnt they say they’re designing clothes??
Jill commented on Jan 10 12 at 12:47 pmWell said, and I to will never ever buy a barbie with their name on it.
Corey M commented on Jan 10 12 at 12:49 pmFor the record: I do have tattoos and my children see them all the time. But, at the same time I still would not buy them a tattooed barbie. You all might think this is a little backwards thinking, but it’s not really. I got my tattoos when I was an adult and could make a wise choice about them. I honestly think if I was a young child and playing with a tattooed doll that it would have placed the wrong idea about tattoos into my mind. Young minds do not process things like adults mind do. Young mind are much more impulsive and construe things out of context. Giving a child a tattooed barbie could tell the child that getting a tattoo without a mature decision behind it is ok. It’s dangerous territory to give a child a doll with adult themed messages. tattoos are an adult choice that needs to be made with a lot of care and consideration. Another example to bring my point a crossed is this: adults drink alcohol and it is ok, but we would not want our children playing with a beer drinking barbie doll.
Corey M commented on Jan 10 12 at 12:56 pmI have to address this issue real quick: I completely understand the concern about the unrealistic image that barbie can place in a young girls mind. At the same time very young children, under 4 don’t really care about body image they just care about playing with a doll. As our children get older and more aware of body images and issue that surround it, we as parents need to talk with our children and let them know that they are beautiful in their shape and size no matter what other people may look like. God made us all different for a reason. If we all looked the some this would would be boring. We also need to explain that barbie is just a doll and not an image of what real life and real people look like. I think if we arm our children with self confidence then they can play with any kind of doll regardless of size, race, or what not.
chrissy commented on Jan 10 12 at 1:26 pmwho cares if the family was rich (because of the dads basically) kim got famous off the sex tape and thats how she got her E! series..like how Paris got her reality shows after her sex tape debut. I dont feel that reality stars are Barbie worthy…no real talent besides doing crazy stuff on tv that people can laugh at. if the kardashians get barbies we should go ahead and make all the real housewives barbies…NeNe Barbie! Hehe
Jessica B commented on Jan 10 12 at 1:38 pmWhat everyone is missing here is that a child isnt even going to know who the Kardashians are okay, not to mention all the shity things that some of their family has done. all a child sees is a barbie that she wants to play with. my little girl doesnt even play with barbies, not because i dont want her to, but because she just doesnt like them. so sowhat if there is a tattooed barbie, or a kardashian barbie or even a justin bieber “ken” a four year old is only going to see different dolls that all have something unique about them. Corey M i feel that you have condradicted (sorry horrible spelling, schooled in maine) yourself, you say that you want your kids to see that every one is different, but would exclude your child from a doll that may look like you??? and thats all your child sees, you. there are hundreds of different types of barbies, skippers, kendras, kens, and what ever all her friends are named for a reason. a doll is not going to make your child want tattoos, or look like she has an inflated butt. those are things that we as parents teach our kids, and if your a great parent, which im sure you are, your child will be as strong willed as you regardless of what dolls she has played with. personaly id rather read an article about how many children are homeless and how that affects our kids…… my 10 year old said to me at christmas time that he cant wait to grow up and be rich so he and his wife can adopt homeless children, no matter the age. i never thought that a 10 year old would even think of that!!! food for thought!!!
CaySedai commented on Jan 10 12 at 3:12 pmAn editorial cartoonist has one word for Mattel: why?
http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=263496597051688&set=a.152817928119556.36926.152783381456344&type=1&theaterI thought you’d get a kick out of that cartoon.
cyndi commented on Jan 14 12 at 7:59 pmmy kids ask questions about different dolls if they are not like regular barbies and i do not want my kids playing with a kardashian barbie as i do not want that type of person being a role model for our kids and the 95 other mothers in our group strongly agree they are adult context only people and not to be idolized in any shape or form as a doll for our kids!!!! We will boycott a kardashian barbie sure it’s ok to dream as a child but lets not influence their child-like opinion of a barbie with ruthless-money grubbling porn stars like the kardashians it’s not for our kids!!!!!! THIS IS SO WRONG!!!! Please do not make barbies into adult like stripper barbies mattel has gone too far!!!!
CONCERNED MOTHERS OF AMERICA WE WILL BOYCOTT KARDASHIAN BARBIES !!!!!!
