The last photo of a certain tooth.

Give me the option between a loaded diaper from Vivi or watching Addie play with a dangerously loose tooth with her tongue? I’ll take the diaper thank you. I remember being fascinated with loose teeth as a kid, maybe because it meant the tooth fairy was coming or that you could go into school with a giant blank mouth space of courage…whatever the reason was I’ve since forgotten about it and now dread these six words.

“MOM! I’VE GOT ANOTHER LOOSE TOOTH!”

It’s not even as though I’ve dealt with a whole lot of the little suckers. She’s only lost two and I was half a continent away when she lost one of them. But sure enough she proclaimed that yet another one was loose and of course made me FEEL IT as soon as we got home. Here’s an interesting little fact, one of the most common nightmares I have is one where all of my teeth just fall out. For no reason. My first thought is always “Oh great, we don’t have insurance, how am I going to pay for this?” and my second thought is how gross it is to spit them all out and feel nothing but gum left behind.

I never had to have braces but I had dental trauma all my own. I don’t want Addie to have to experience the same thing (in fact she’s going to the dentist next week, fingers crossed.) So far so good, although one of her new teeth is growing in a little funny. When it comes to fairytale jobs I simply couldn’t handle? Tooth Fairy is at the top of the list followed shortly by those guys who sewed the vain emperor’s new clothes, I’m a horrible liar.

As these teeth keep dropping out of Addie’s mouth and working to appear in Vivi’s I can assure you that nothing drives the point home that your child is growing up more than when their teeth start falling out of their head.

How do you handle the dental issues in your family?

Loose teeth freak me out! I don’t want to see them and especially don’t want to touch them!!

My teeth crumble or break inside my mouth and then fall out. In my dreams. Freaks me out. I never thought about my kids’ teeth falling out. Only a couple years left. Eek!

That was a common dream when I was pregnant. I don;t remember what it was supposed to mean.

My youngest does not like to play with her tooth, AT ALL. I actually took her to the dentist after 4 WEEKS and asked him if it was damaging her new tooth or could cause an infection. He said, nope, she’s fine. You wouldn’t believe the smug look she gave me (she was 5 or 6).

Now she doesn’t tell me they’re loose until they are ready to come out. I don’t know which is worse.

I have that nightmare all the time. So horrible. I need to look into the meaning.

Also – loose teeth and teeth falling out of my kid’s mouth CREEPS ME OUT! I gag. She runs up to me and wiggles her loose teeth just to see me freak.

When I was teaching school it would gross me out and the kids would come show me just to see me squirm. I though I would be able to handle it with my own kids, i mean I can hold my kid and let them barf all over me (to save the carpet) and hardly flinch…if i see another kid barf I can hardly keep myself from dry heaving. But this tooth thing! My 7 year old is loving showing me her’s just like my old student’s did. Loving to see her mom squirm! yuck!

I’m actually the opposite. Zoe has had a tooth loose in her mouth since August and just refuses to wiggle that thing out. And she won’t let me wiggle it out. Her adult tooth has been growing in… and because that little wiggly sucker is in the way it’s growing in crooked.

In the last couple weeks she’s also announced that that one wiggly tooth has friends. 3 other teeth have joined in. 4 wiggling teeth in all. I don’t know how she leaves them alone. Maybe Addie should give her a call.
