Batman Forever: My Halloween On Repeat
Anders was ten months old for his first Halloween. He was not yet old enough to express interest in any costume in particular and I thought it would be adorable to dress him as a monkey. Judging by the howling screams, the back arching, and the tears that were shed that All Hallow’s Eve, I deduce that he did not agree with me.
The following year, though he was just shy of two years old, we decided to get his input on what he would like to dress as for the occasion.
“Batman!” He squealed.
“Batman? You’re sure?”
“Yes, mommy. Batman with a cape and a mask.”
So, Batman it was for year two and then again for year three and once again for year four. Every year I ask and every year he stands firm in his decision to dress as the Caped Crusader. Here we are on our fifth Halloween and some things never change. This year he has even gotten his lovey in on the action.
I don’t know if or when Anders will change his taste in Halloween attire, but it becomes more difficult each year to find a different costume from year’s past. Sometimes I suspect this is all an elaborate plot of his to punish me for that first year I had the audacity to dress him as a monkey.
Now for a look at my Halloween on repeat and the many faces of the Dark Knight.

Dana commented on Oct 31 11 at 10:16 amIt’s not that my kids wear the same costume from year to year, though they HAVE done that, it’s more that they wear each others costumes. We’ve had a cowboy costume in our extended family since 2007 that has been worn by someone every year since including my youngest, who wore it to preschool this morning and called himself “Woody.”
Betsy McPherson commented on Oct 31 11 at 10:38 amI love it! My little boy, Andrew has insisted on dressing up as Batman for the past 3 years running. Saves a little coin, but what about the fun of coming up with something new each year?? When I was 3 years old, my mother founded a hair accessories company (Wee Ones). I wore a bow in my hair every single day of my life until I graduated from high school. Every single day. Even when I insisted on cutting my hair short (see 5th grade: not pretty). But I wore those bows, and without putting up much of a fight. Boys………….a little more stubborn.
P.S. I bet the monkey was adorable!

aquariann commented on Oct 31 11 at 3:25 pmBatman is a pretty awesome choice to dress up as year after year – he does have several suits to choose from all the different timelines! Cute costumes. ^.^

January commented on Nov 02 11 at 7:28 pmI didn’t realize how many different Batman costumes existed. Impressive! Anders makes a very adorable Batman indeed…although Batdog definitely is in close seconds! And I LOVED Danica’s Superwoman costume. Awesome.
Laura commented on Nov 17 11 at 10:07 amMy son (7) had the same Batman costume (the first one) and wore it for Halloween when her was 3 or so, then everyday for about 2 years. My mom had to add a black panel through the middle so it would still fit him. He was Batman Forever another year. Then, my daughter wore the 1st Batman costume last year and she was Batgirl this year. (As for repeating – my son wore his homemade sheep costume his first 2 years and then my daughter wore it her first year.)
