I Have a Gold Medal in Costume Patience.
“I’m going to be Boba Fett. If that doesn’t work out I’m going to be Optimus Prime. If that doesn’t work out I’m going to be Hans Solo. If that doesn’t work out I’m going to be Bumblebee. If that doesn’t work out I’m going to be a black ninja. If that doesn’t work out I’m going to be Batman. If that doesn’t work out I’m going to be the Green Lantern.”
Guess who made the mistake of asking a 7-year-old boy what he was going to be for Halloween eight days before the 31st?
Just like you never ask a woman when she is due, you never ask a school-aged child what they are going to be for Halloween — that is, unless the baby is crowning or the child is at your front door asking for treats.
Addie was going to be Spidergirl, or a witch, or a fairytale witch, Ariel, a cowgirl or maybe Candace Flynn. Finally on Saturday, we found a few finishing touches to the most perfect Addie costume ever.
Remember when I said the kid had a knack for throwing together the most hysterical outfits?
Addie went to a Halloween party on Saturday as Fancy Nancy. It didn’t matter if people knew who Fancy Nancy was, they knew Addie, and they knew she looked perfect. Like Addie with extra sparkle.
Even the illustrator of the Fancy Nancy books, Robin Preiss Glasser, commented on Facebook about Addie’s Costume. Guess how excited Addie is to take a print out of that page to her first-grade teacher?
Are you still in the throes of finalizing costumes in your house? Fancy Nancy is pretty easy, just takes some glitter, ribbon and a hot glue gun (more or less).
