3 Ways Steve Jobs Changed Motherhood

IMG 9476 200x300 3 Ways Steve Jobs Changed MotherhoodI never met Steve Jobs, but he was able to change my life completely by making me a better, more fulfilled (and fun!) mother. Find out three reasons why after the jump.

*He made working from home an option!

Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak are credited with creating the first personal computer 1976. Now, in 2011, I have the option to work from home entirely from my computer. As a writer and amateur photographer, purchasing my Mac last March was all I needed to do to launch my writing career. And look at me now: I’m sitting in my sweatpants writing for Babble from my living room! Life is good.

*I don’t get lost anymore!

If it wasn’t for my iPhone, I would be lost trying to navigate my family through NYC. Constantly lost! When I’m out with my kids discovering new places, you can bet I’ll be staring at my iPhone, and saying, “Hold on kids, I need to get my bearings.” It’s turning into my catch phrase. I don’t know how mothers navigated through the city before iPhones. And what about the millions of other apps that make our lives easier?

*Childrens movies have never looked so good.

I almost forgot that Steve Jobs was also the CEO Pixar. Remember seeing Toy Story for the first time? I was shocked at the clarity! Pixar has made some of my favorite movies. I love watching them with my kids! Oddly, Steve Jobs founded Pixar after he got fired from Apple. He described this as the most creative part of his life. Funny how things work out like that.

The computer I work from, the maps I use, and the movies I watch are all better thanks to Steve Jobs. It’s quite the legacy he leaves behind. He’ll be missed.

What are some ways Steve Jobs has changed motherhood for you?

Love this post! It’s amazing to think about the impact Steve Jobs has had on our lives, especially as it relates to motherhood. I’m a virtual worker, which as you know is priceless. My son learned his shapes on the iPhone! And I’m able to capture every amazing moment with my little one thanks to the great camera on my iPhone.

And can I just add, I’m obsessed with reading online magazines on my iPad.

I use my iPod and iTunes almost everyday. It gives me a much needed break as a mom when I exercise! I didn’t even think about him starting Pixar. Amazing how one person, one brain, could jumpstart so many ideas. I wonder what he was like as a kid?

Great article and what a great way to pay tribute. I understand that all around the world people are leaving flower and notes outside of Apple stores. Cute, it makes me want to go find one myself.
