The Lollacup: Not Just Another Sippy Cup
The brand new Lolla Cup might, at first glance, look like just another cup for kids. But when you look a little closer, you’ll see the one big feature most cups don’t have.
With the Lollacup there are no valves at all. For anyone who has tried to clean a regular kids travel cup (and I suspect that is most of us), those little plastic valves can be a real pain. In my house they are forever getting lost – that is when they aren’t completely filthy. Instead of a valve it’s a straw, except the straw on the inside is weighted on the bottom so as your child tips the cup to drink, the straw goes right where the liquid is.

It’s smart! It’s environmentally-friendly! It’s useful! The EIO Kids Cup transforms any 8 oz. canning jar into a toddler training cup.
I haven’t tried this product yet, but I love the idea. I’ve got entire cupboard in my kitchen dedicated to empty canning jars — it’s always nice to find another use for them. Plus, it’s totally PBA-free.
These cups are spout-less, meaning they require sipping, not sucking. They’re not leak-free, but they look like they would help transition babies and toddlers from bottles to real cups better than traditional spouted cups. I watched a couple of demo videos on the EIO site and they seem great.

Toddler Mealtime: Teaching Cups
So, my son turns three in August. My goodness, I can’t even believe it! It seems like yesterday I was feeding him a bottle in the rocking chair by the window, looking out at a lush red bush blossoming with flowers that looked like fireworks exploding–ahhhhh, sweet memories!
Next, I introduced a sippy cup with a spout and he chugged his organic whole milk like it was the best thing since…formula. I teared up when he sipped from a juice box and told me, “I do it myself, Mama,” as I tried to explain what a straw was. I guess he knew.
Well, the time has come to teach him how to drink from a cup–GULP! I found the best teach-your-child-to-drink-from-a-cup, cup ever! (Because, I hate throw-away cups–what a waste of money!) My fab find will have you offering a “Cheers” to your kiddo in no time! Continue reading »
Traveling With Kids Just Got Easier
Summer is here and families are hitting the road, mine among them. In the past two weeks we’ve been on three jumbo jets and endured two 4-hour-plus roadtrips. So by necessity I have developed into a one-woman traveling circus, alternately singing, telling stories, playing games, making funny faces, and juggling for hours on end. (By juggling I mean engaging my daughter in a steady stream of iPad apps without letting her hit the oh-so-exciting button that means we have to start all over.)
In addition to providing entertainment, it also falls on me to provide sustenance, and—more importantly for the other travelers on our flight—soothing comfort for a tired toddler. Which is why I am always lugging around a small cooler full of milk and various sippy cups, as well as one beloved bottle, as a last resort (she gave ‘em up months ago, but when you are circling Laguardia airport three hours after bedtime you want access to every weapon in your arsenal).
Happily, I have just discovered an all-in-one solution that will significantly lighten my load. Continue reading »
