An Exciting Announcement from Target
I want to give whoever came up for the idea of having designer lines at Target a big, fat kiss. Just as I thought it couldn’t get much better than Missoni and Jason Wu, Target just unveiled The Shops at Target. What’s that, you ask? Well, Target will be partnering directly with the shop owners of specialty stores to co-create affordable, limited-edition collections. The first of The Shops at Target will debut on May 6 and features collections from five different shops. Check out which ones are included below and get excited.
The Candy Store
Cos Bar
Polka Dog Bakery
Privet House
The Webster

Don’t get me wrong, they are a business trying to make a living, but as a small business owner myself, it’s frustrating when I see lines and companies that I work so hard to promote in my shop sell out and use a big box store to push their name. Or when that big box store claims exclusivity to a line or concept.
I am one person doing the work of many for research, finances, display, promotion, advertising, etc. By the time I have my ideas presented, they have been demeaned in a cheaper version by the big box of shame.
So frustrating. I do wish those companies the best in their new relationship with Target, and have now crossed a few of them off my list as potential lines for my shop. The demographics of my town will not allow me to carry any product or line that is at Target, WalMart, ShopKo, KMart, Old Navy or others. It makes it harder and harder to offer something wonderful and unique to my clientele when it is diluted to the masses.Dear Big Box Stores,
Could you please let the little guys win more often? Besides, without small business, I really to believe that our wonderful country would crumble.
With Love,
Small Business
