8 Best Paint Chip Projects
Paint chips as a crafting supply have really come into their own in the last couple years. There are tons of clever people coming up with cute projects, party decorations and even high art. I’m in love with the fringy mural by artist Peter Combe. I was relieved when I realized he’d used a paper shredder to get the swatches down to all those thousands of strips, but even so, can you imagine how long it took? It would be a fun DIY if you had hours and hours and plenty of patience. Check out seven more clever projects after the jump.

Amber commented on Sep 09 11 at 11:27 amAm I the only one that thinks taking as many paint chips as you need for some of these projects is… kind of… stealing? I know they’re “free”, but it certainly isn’t free for the paint companies to produce them and I doubt they were intending to subsidize our craft habits when they put them out there. I love these neat and beautiful projects, but I know I would feel a little off if I walked into a paint store and walked out with nothing but a cart full of free paint chips. (No, I don’t work for a paint store. It’s just a thought.)

Sara commented on Sep 10 11 at 11:33 amWhen I go into a store I will ask if there is a limit on paint chips. I tell them I am doing a craft project. I have never had a store give me a limit or tell me “no.”

Laura commented on Sep 11 11 at 10:14 amI wouldn’t feel right about it either, but I imagine many of us save paint chips from previous painting projects. I know I have a stack of them and could probably ask a few friends to give me their stacks too. And a lot of these projects don’t need that many chips anyway.
Another thought…. citing “Pinterest” as the source is a load of crap. You really should link to the pin you found and to the original pinner in addition to the original source. That’s giving the curating credit where it’s due. At least the project names link to the original source, which is much better than many do.

allikpeters commented on Sep 13 11 at 9:57 amWe use them at our school library to make each student a library card. One color for each class. On each paint chip we put the student name and barcode. then they decorate with stickers. It’s perfect!

quincy commented on Apr 07 12 at 8:32 pmwhy do you think that would be wrong they’re free so why wouldn’t you want to take advantage of that its not like your going to re sell them for something dumb your making a craft (or whatever your doing) to decorate your home (or whatever your doing) so i don’t see why thats a problem
